Spring Break travel will cost more this year than last for those hitting the highway.
The average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Pensacola area is $2.81, up from $2.01 a year ago. Gas prices in the North Escambia area were generally in the $2.77 to $2.79 range.
The lowest price in the Pensacola area Sunday night was $2.69 at Sam’s Club on Airport Boulevard, the second lowest priced station in the state according to www.floridastategasprices.com.

Gas prices always find a way of going sky-high during Spring Break, Summer, and any other time we (public) want to travel. Then, we begin to see price wars at the stations. It’s an endless cycle of greed. I suppose my money will work better at home or in a savings account (at a credit union). But once in a while you’d think they’d give us a “special offer” on gas or something. What a day-dreamer I’ve become… I’ll keep my money here in my own community this Spring and Summer.
I might remind everyone that these prices are on a strict supply and demand basis. If you want to help control the price don’t buy the product. Pay attention to all the unnecessary miles you travel in a day. Write down your mileage you travel everyday and you will be astounded. Find these teens a job or keep them home give the chores and take away those credit cards and see what happens.
