Search Continues For Melinda Wall McGhee, Missing From Atmore For Seven Years

March 24, 2010

Seven years ago the morning of March 24, something went terribly wrong at a home on Kent Road north of Atmore.  Melinda Wall McGhee, then 31, returned to her home about 8 a.m. after working the night shift as a nurse at a Bay Minette nursing home.

Her husband, Troy McGhee, was at work at Masland Carpets in Atmore. Their two children were at a babysitter, and Troy’s son from a previous relationship was at a dentist’s office. At about 8:30 the morning of March 24, 2003, Melinda McGhee spoke to her mother on the phone. It was the last time anyone known to Melinda would ever hear from her.

At about 4:00 that afternoon, husband Troy came home to find Melinda missing. There was blood and evidence of a violent struggle inside the home. He reported his wife missing.

Melinda’s vehicle was found parked near the house with her keys locked inside. Her purse and cellular phone were inside the residence. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance.

Over the years, there have been several searches for Melinda’s body or clues into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

In March 2009, authorities searched an area off Perry Lane in Wawbeek for clues in Melinda’s disappearance. Perry Lane is about a mile north of Highway 31 off Sardis Church Road near Old Atmore Road. The location is about three miles north of the Florida/Alabama line and North Escambia. On the last day of January, 2009, authorities searched a water-filled gravel pit off Jack Springs Roads near the Judson Cemetery between Atmore and Poarch. All of the searches have turned up empty.

Anyone with information on McGhee’s disappearance is asked to call the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Department at (251) 809-0741 or their local law enforcement agency.

we all know that this tragedy has been going on far too long, call John Walsh, with America’s Most Wanted, put this incident back in the proper light, the light that Melinda deserves. Check all jobsites that were pouring concrete around the time of her disappearance, that’s what the mob would do. Whatever it takes, find her and allow the family to rest. JJ

I don’t know if a criminal profiler would do much good right now. I’m not sure how much physical evidence and/or photographs were taken at the crime scene. I think a profiler could give an incomplete profile based on the evidence given. I don’t know why the police did not vigorously investigate this case. I believe many people are not satisfied with the way this case was handled. (I do not know if all of the circumstances of the case have been opened to the public; I am basing my opinion on what I have observed of this case.)

it’s hard to believe with all of the forsenics they have today that they have no evidence linking someone to this…a person just doesn’t fall off the face of the earth for this long…

I understand that her home was located in a area that unless you knew a home was located there you would have not knew of this location. Did she have any close neighbors that might have heard something? Have the family thought of callind in a crimal profiler . I understand that they can just about tell you what kind of person did this. I think of her family often. God must be keeping them very strong. I will keep them in my prayers.

This is sad! The family needs some closer! If you knew where they lived it is well off the beaten path! It’s not a place you would just stumble up on!

I know the family. They need answers. Troy was a great father and husband. I know he truly misses her and the kids, theres no more to say. Their mother is dearly missed. Somebody somewhere knows something and they are not telling. Take the reward and go. Just give this family some leads. Hoping and praying.
