No Hitter From Gavin As Jay Beats Ponce; Wins For Tate Boys And Girls

With a no-hitter from Zack Gavin, the Jay Royals beat Ponce De Leon High 14-0 on Friday under the mercy rules that ended the game after five.

Gavin, a junior, also had seven strikeouts and walked just three. The Royals had two in the first, five in the second and a powerful seven run fourth inning.

Hunter Brown was 2-3 with one RBI, Sawyer Gandey wen 1-2 with one RBI, Rush Hendricks was 2-2 with a pair of doubles and Dakota Smith went 1-2 with one RBI for Jay.

Tate 6 Milton 5

The Tate Aggies added four in the last inning to pull out a 6-5 win over Milton on Friday.

Tino Benjamin had a home run for Tate, along with three RBI. He was 2-3 at the plate. Adam Mack, at 2-3, had an RBI. Lee Hunter was 1-2.

SOFTBALL

Tate 8 Pine Forest 1

The Tate Aggies beat the Pine Forest Eagles Friday in girls softball, 8-1.

The Aggies were led by pitcher Heather Schaff with five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven. At the plate, Scaff had a couple of runs.

Shelby Myers was 1-3 for Tate, with an RBI. Maleia Combs was 2-4 with one RBI.

    Mercy rules a good thing. Would like to see some of the football games stopped.No good reason for 50, 60, and 70 point blow outs, just racking up stats. Racking up stats on blow outs give a false picture of the whole team.
