A hay trailer fire delayed traffic on Highway 97 for a short time Saturday morning in Molino.

The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and the Florida Division of Forestry responded to the burning hay and resulting small grass fire about 11 Saturday morning. The trailer was on Pilgrim Trail, just a few feet off of Highway 97. The was minor damage to the trailer, and there were no injuries.

Once firefighters extinguished the majority of the fire in the large rolls of hay using water, they were required to use rakes to pull smoldering hay off the trailer to finish their job.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic.

Farmers have it rough, I hope and pray we have an appreciation of them as we eat the cattle they raise and the vegtables they grow.

I was behind the trailer on 97 and this is some of the worse looking hay I’ve seen in a long time. Hope someone will clean up the mess that was left.
