Former Century Citizen Of The Year Passes Away

Funeral services were held Sunday a for a former Century Citizen of the Year.
Margherita Swift Jones, 93, of Century, passed away late last week. An Atmore native, she was a resident of Century for nearly 65 years. Jones was names Century’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2003.
Jones gave generously of her time as a volunteer to the community working with groups including the Flomaton Research Club, Alger-Sullivan Historical Society, local schools, Turtle Point Environmental Center, Century Memory Loss Support Group, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was a 1938 graduate of the University of Alabama with academic honors, and she recently received her 75 year membership pin from Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

I think Julie said it right, Mrs. Margherita was a classy lady. She was so sweet and kind and gracious to all she met. She is truly going to be missed by all. My condolences to the Jones Family.
Ms. Margherita, was a wonderful and gracious lady who I had the pleasure of knowing the last 14 years. She will truly be missed by many many people. May God Bless the Jones Family, you all are in our prayers.
Ms.Margherita was a REAL LADY always with a beautiful smile. I only knew her for a short time, She will be missed.
Mrs. Margherita was truly one classy lady! Her graciousness and friendly smile only added to her beauty. She will be so missed by all of us on this earth but surely the angels in heaven are singing to have her with them.
With love and gratitude for having the opportunity to know Mrs. Margherita., for that I and those whose life she touched, have been blessed.

Ms. Margherita was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I only saw her now and then at the support group, but I grew to love her. She was really upbeat every time I saw her. I wish I could have seen her just one more time. She will be missed.
