Escambia County is asking the state to remove logjams along the Escambia River to decrease the risk of flooding.

Substantial quantities of logs, vessels and other debris have obstructed water flow and safe navigation on Escambia River. Thursday night, the county commission passed a resolution asking the state to take immediate action remove to the logjams from river, which is under the jurisdiction and ownership of the State of Florida.

According to the commission’s resolution, the logjams threaten the safety and welfare of citizens. In addition to causing navigational problems, the logjams aggravate flooding of lands and bridges along the river “endangering the property and jeopardizing the safety and welfare of Florida’s citizens and visitors”.

well u know if the state would take the logs at the escambia bridge near century and load them onto a truck or trucks and take them to a place to dry out and burn them instead of sending them down river, the big log jam may not be as big. but i think they want to take the easy way out. but you see it caught up to them now. now the big question is HOW are they gana get the big log jam out. lets see they might break it and send it down the river and cause another log jam. i seen that big log jam and big just ain’t the word for it. it stretches for at least two beens and there is no way around it at all.

I don’t no why the state won’t clear the river all the way down and let the water flow as it did years ago. The Corp of Engineers help clean the rivers log jams in the southern part of our state so why can’t we get help. There are log jams from Hwy 4 down through Molino, this whould help the river in execesive rains and help stop flooding in areas near the river.
