Couple Robs Brewton Bank

March 17, 2010

Authorities are on the lookout for a couple after the robbery of a bank in East Brewton around noon Wednesday

A white male and white female held up the BankTrust branch on Forest Avenue. Both were described by witnesses at wearing dark hoodies. They presented a holdup note to a teller before fleeing with an undetermined amount of money. They reportedly did not display a weapon during the robbery.

They fled the scene in a vehicle that was waiting behind the bank. Differing descriptions of the getaway vehicle have been given. The most current description is an older model pewter or gold Pontiac Sunfire with a spoiler and a Florida tag. The tag number is not known.  The car may have been seen headed in the direction of Santa Rosa County and was last seen in the area of Jay Road.

It was not known if this robbery is connected to the recent bank robberies in Flomaton and Florala that also involved man and woman.

The investigation into the robbery is being handled by the FBI, East Brewton Police and the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office. Tracking dogs from Tracking dogs from Century Correctional Institution were called to assist in the suspect search but were not used since the suspects were seen by multiple witnesses leaving in a vehicle.

Anyone with information should contact their local law enforcement agency. The suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

Some banks tell their personnel to just give the robbers the money and try to be sure the “bate money” is included. None want a shoot out where there is a chance that a bank employee or a customer gets shot and or killed. From what I have read most of the robberies do not amount to much money—just enough to buy a few days drugs. Better to loose a few dollars than a life.

I am thinking on the same line as SW, a second Bonnie and Clyde team has emerged. One thing for sure, however, they will not go down the same way as their infamous role models. An extended stay in a Federal Prison furnishing them with all of life’s necessities has replaced the firing squad.

I’ll be damned if somebody ever trys to rob me with a piece of paper!Thats as bout as bad as the ol’ pointed index finger under the jacket trick. And can’t banks afford better surveilence and security equiment(inside and out) or maybe even hire some security gaurds? And has anybody ever thought..after all these years of installing bullet proof windows in front of the tellers desk inside?I suspect these are the same robbers….white male, white female, small bank closest to florida line, ect. And i suspect they will do it again. And i suggest and expect the law enforcement in both states, fbi, and banks be prepared for the next one.I know police have ALOT going on in these HUGE towns, but surely they can get help from somewhere to catch these guys.Shooot…pay me 6 bucks an hour and a box of crispy creams and ill stake out these bank parking lots getting license plates, vehicle discriptions, people discriptions,times,ect..You know they will do it again. We know they like banks close to state lines. We know the estimated time range between robberies.Surely it shouldnt be too hard to place undercovers at differnet bank locations in the area and have a police patrolling an area near the border routes in florida,at least for a while to see if they strike again. It seems its gonna be a whole lot easier and faster to catch these people in the act than trying to hunt them down after the robberies have taken place.But..im not law enforcement and im not a bank teller. If i were id do all these things and more and if i was a teller as soon as that little woman stuck a note in front of me id stick her back the finger and make her show me she had a gun.But thats one reason why i’ll never be a bank teller.:)

If this is the same couple that robbed the Flomaton bank, then the other banks need to slip in some money management tips on the next one.
