A two and a half hour manhunt Thursday night in Century failed to locate an armed robbery suspect.

moyes111.jpgAn armed robbery was reported about 7 p.m. at Moyes State Line Food Mart on North Century Boulevard. The store clerk told deputies that a black male entered the front door of the store, came up to the side of the counter, pointed a handgun at her and a customer, and demanded that she empty the register. The suspect also took money and lottery tickets from the customer, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report.

The suspect was described as a black male, about six feet tall wearing a black hoodie jacket with a scarf over his mouth.

K-9 units from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Century Correctional Institution joined Escambia County deputies and Flomaton Police Department officers in a lengthy manhunt for the suspect. The manhunt was centered in an area bounded by Highway 29, Old Flomaton Road, Highway 4 and the Alabama state line.

About 8:40 p.m., a resident just south of the convenience store called 911 to report that a black male wearing a dark colored hoodie jackets was standing at her door, covered in mud. The resident also described the man as having lips that were light in color and appeared to be burned.

“‘Don’t you know me? Don’t you remember me? The police are after me’,” the suspect told the woman, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The man reportedly asked the female if he could entire the house, but she refused and called for help. A black jacket was recovered by an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office crime scene technician from behind the woman’s residence.

The search was called off just before 10 p.m. with no arrests. Deputies are continuing to look for the suspect.

The convenience store clerk was not injured in the robbery. It was not immediately known how much, if any, cash the suspect was able to take from the store.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (850) 436-9620.

I know whats its like to be robbed at gun point and even though it happened to me twice in 1982 I have never forgotten one single minute of the whole event. It is something stays with you forever but when ya gotta work whatcha gonna do? There are people who want to profit from other labor.

Yes, “This Crap Starts At Home.” However, government entitlements aren’t helping the situation, either. Generally, parents give their children what they want with no expected responsibilities, and now the government reinforces that mind set.

Too bad that the lady that this subject was at her house couldn’t have gotten the police there while he was still there at her front door…

America needs to step up and take back what drugs and lazy losers are taking from them. Gang up and watch your neighborhoods and get rid of the trash.

I do agree with bad bad bad.. I hear of more parents that are handing material things to their children and not expecting them to earn them by working for a paycheck. Those same children are still living with parents when they are in their late twenties or more while Mom and Dad still are footing the bill. The offspring has no respect for themselves or their parents. I’m not saying this is the case here but I like so many others has noticed an upswing in crime these last two or three months.

The suspect is probably the same one who robbed the 18 year old. The house trailer where that crime occurred is within walking distance to the store.

I can tell you whats happening in this world.
Lazy people who think the whole world owes them a living, and
    DRUGS!

Get your children up every morning early from the time they arrive
in this world. Teach them to be productive and have a good work eithic.
Tell them to stay off drugs! Don’t hand them everything under the sun
they want as a kid, and they won’t think the world should just hand them everything they want in life.

    THIS CRAP STARTS A HOME!

I’m not sure if people are getting braver or crazier. When I was growing up around here you never heard of all these things going on.

For a while it was one wreck right after another, now it’s people with guns breaking the law. You would think the Wild West days have returned.

Praising God that no one was hurt or killed.
