First of all, I was born and raised in atmore al, its very very small, there’s very little to do there, back in the day when we had severe weather condition , and we lost our Bus station, AMTRACK can’t stop there anymore, we have about one cab if that, its really nowhere to go or nothing to do, that paticular place you busted did anyone tell you that if you was hungry, you could always get something to eat, no question ask it wasn’t about money out there, it was about a few friends having something to do and some where to go. there back at home now only thing left is the casino, and people just don’t have money to go sit up at the casino, Ireally feel sorry for my home town and my home people, its almost like the old 1800.

The Gentlemen in blue are doing what they are paid to do by, raiding a bar operating illegally in the north part of town, 37 people are facing charges ranging from illegally consuming alcohol, selling alcohol on Sunday, concealed weapons violations and drug possession.

    SERIOUS enough. Good job.

  3. m on March 11th, 2010 11:03 am

WOW IT IS NOT THAT SERIOUS!!!! Older mature adults, that have worked all week, minding their own business, and trying to relax on what happened to be a sunday. Not hurting anyone and nothing getting out of hand. Can’t these fine gentlemen in blue find something better to do…….

  4. NeNe on March 10th, 2010 11:18 am

rebel not only does Atmore have lots of criminals but wherever you are criminals exist there as well. Everyone there was not drinking nor did they catch them drinking

37 people are facing on charges ranging from illegally consuming alcohol, selling alcohol on Sunday, concealed weapons violations and drug possession.

There are ways to drink beer on Sunday and not be a criminal.
There are ways to conceal weapons and not be a criminal.
There are ways to posses drugs and not be a criminal.

    But these folks were CRIMINALS…

    Good job LEO!

    whos on a soapbox again?

  8. get off that soapbox on March 9th, 2010 3:15 pm

Again, still a crime, still in a neighborhood with kids and elderly people that want and deserve a quiet, safe neighborhood to live in. Everyone there knew it was not a legal bar and they chose to be there anyway. Again, my impression has not changed , wrong, wrong wrong. Have a good day Billy and get a life!

WOW! WHO LET THE DOGS OUT, WHO, WHO!
I am glad to see that boozing is wrong, when it’s wrong. Great job of undercover work guys and gals.
    Reads like a telephone book.

  10. huh on March 9th, 2010 3:12 pm

This is insane, so they bought alcohol in Florida on sunday, because they don’t sell it in Alabama on Sunday, and because they were drinking it in Alabama, that its against the law?

So our Alabama tax dollars are spent busting them.

Seems very wrong, Alabama should sell Alcohol on Sunday if they cared about making tax money for the state.

As of right now they lose money on sunday, and waste money busting people that buy it in florida

This is a double Loss for Alabama , We need to not let others religious beliefs control us in Alabama!

  11. Billy on March 9th, 2010 12:04 pm

Yes, it is illegal for you to transport alcohol across state lines. Every person who buys alcohol across the line on hwy 21 and then comes back into Atmore commits a crime called Possession of Untaxed Alcohol…AKA bootlegging. Possessing moonshine is another charge all together.

  12. Billy on March 9th, 2010 12:01 pm

I think they did a good job too. I believe that ALL laws should be enforced whether they are in a neighborhood or not. It is a crime to drink in a public place on Sunday and selling liquor w/o a license. This is what they got in trouble for…not being in a neighborhood. If they weren’t drinking on Sunday and/or selling liquor w/o a license nothing could be done to them.
You give the impression that it is only wrong because they are in a neighborhood or have neighbors. It is just as wrong for them to be in the middle of a field with no one anywhere in sight. If law enforcement were to only enforce the laws that bothered people, or only enforced these types of laws inside a neighborhood then it would be unconstitutional and just morally wrong. I love it when the police enforce the minor violations such as this because NO law should be overlooked. You have taken a remark and blown it so out of proportion that it is ridiculous.
Rebel said that there are a lot of criminals in Atmore. I was simply making a pun about calling someone a criminal because they drank in a public place on Sunday. If you are in view of the public you have no right to privacy and you are considered in a public place. So, Ms. Soapbox, if you drank a beer or wine cooler in your front yard where you could be seen by the public on Sunday. I guess that makes you a criminal. I don’t agree with what these people did and I am glad they got arrested. But keep in mind that the tickets that these people were issued are no different than a normal speeding ticket. Judge them if you want to but its not like they committed a serious crime(I’m speaking of the Sunday drinkers and not the six people with other charges).

  13. untaxed? on March 9th, 2010 11:48 am

Is the untaxed alcohol simply what is brought in from Florida? I remember there being some issue with bringing beer from Florida.

  14. Hounds tooth on March 9th, 2010 10:12 am

It also sounds like there may been some illegal alcohol. “Untaxed” does that refer to home made/ moonshine? Just curious

  15. get off that soapbox on March 9th, 2010 9:57 am

Wouldn’t you just love to live next door to that house? Wouldn’t you just love for your children to be outside playing and witnessing all that? And yes it is a house in a neighborhood with NEIGHBORS on both sides, front and back. So no I do not agree that it was just drinking in a public place on Sunday, and running an illegal bar. And I still say good job to the the ABC Board, Police and Sheriff’s department. Keep up the good work. There are several more that need to be closed down also. Sorry Billy-Willy you won’t win this one!

  16. Billy on March 9th, 2010 9:43 am

So you agree that it has nothing to do with neighbors and/or neighborhoods. It has to do with drinking on Sunday in a public place and operating a bar w/o a liquor license.

  17. get off that soapbox on March 9th, 2010 9:25 am

Does this or does this not say operating a illegal bar????? I rest my case.

Alabama’s Alcohol Beverage Control Board Enforcement Division and local law enforcement busted 37 people in Atmore after raiding a bar operating illegally in the north part of town.

The ABC Board, Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office and the Atmore Police Department conducted the Sunday night raid at 104 Etheridge Street, rounding up those inside and hauling off two pickup truckloads of alcohol.

  18. Billy on March 9th, 2010 9:21 am

    get off that soapbox,

31 people were arrested for DRINKING IN A PUBLIC PLACE ON SUNDAY…..Not for partying in a neighborhood. It IS about drinking in a public place on Sunday. Had they not been drinking they wouldn’t have been arrested and nothing would have been done. Being in a neighborhood doesn’t make it a crime. so “duh” back at you. FYI I was commenting on “rebel’s” blog.

  19. get off that soapbox on March 9th, 2010 8:48 am

Good job. I know the neighbors appreciate the police getting this out of the neighborhood. Not about drinking beer on Sunday, duh.

  20. bill, big b little ill on March 9th, 2010 8:40 am

That’s a possibility of 37 drunk drivers, or doped up drivers out of one illegal bar killing someone in one night. Add all that to the other drunks on the road and it gets really dangerous don’t it.

  21. Billy on March 9th, 2010 7:57 am

Yeah….real criminals. How dare they drink beer on Sunday.

  22. Angi on March 9th, 2010 7:07 am

WOW! I agree with rebel… sure is a long list there…

  23. rebel on March 9th, 2010 3:26 am
