No Injuries In Century School Bus Wreck
February 9, 2010
There were no injuries a school bus crash about 8:20 Tuesday morning near Century. There were three students on the bus at the time of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the Escambia County School District bus was traveling west on State Line Road when an eastbound pickup truck driven by Steve Smith, 59, of Milton, crossed the center line into the path of the bus. The two vehicles collided, ripping the mirrors off both.
None of the occupants of the bus were injured: driver Teresa Mitchell, 41 of Molino; Gayle Grissett, 54, of Brewton; Ramey Watkins, 36, of Milton; Jeffrey Macks, 15, of Century; Andrew Farrow, 15, of Century; and Andrew Giveans, 18, of Century.
Smith and passenger in his pickup, Ulrick Renonce, 48, of Milton, were also not injured. Smith was charged with failing to drive in a single lane, according to the FHP.

I am curious as to legally, how late a bus driver can wait before putting out the stop sign. I have been behind the busses leaving Ernest Ward, the ones in Pensacola, busses on the route near Nokomis and not all, but many don’t put out a sign until as another writer commented, the children are almost onto the edge of the road. Those of us who live here have an idea of where most of the stops are, and watch, but for those individuals who are driving through, and don’t have an idea the bus is getting ready to stop, it becomes more dangerous.
some guy took the ticket to save a school bus drivers job!
Geez
“Picture me rolling over on the floor laughing!”
funny how people jump to conclusions.i work with pickup driver that was involved in the wreck.poeple ready need to heard both sides of the story before jumping up and saying stuff. if you ask a bus driver what really happens after a wreck to them (depending fault, and true damages and number of incidents).my friend possibly saved her JOB by taking blame
Sure. Skip over calling the school or transportation about it and call Mr Thomas directly. Tell him you have called repeatedly and you need help with this dangerous situation.
You can also call the DOT about it. Their job is to handle dangerous highway situations.
You can also get the sheriff’s office or the highway patrol in on it.
Nobody ever sees the big yellow bus, because they just don’t care. We live on a 2 lane hwy & everday someone almost rear ends the bus or runs the stop sign. I havecalled & complained & called & called but nothing has been done. It just seeems like nobody even cares about kids anymore. But then if something was to happen it is not the bus drivers fault. In my case it is. The buse driver doesn’t put out his stop sign till the kids are almost on the bus. So can any one give me some advise to this problem. Please
I believe the adults would be the driver and the aides
Glad no one was hurt. I wonder why was an Escambia County School bus hauling a bunch of adults? That is kind of odd. I know one of the people that were on the bus,
@ river rat…
Not always true, there have been so many bus accidents lately… Whether it is their fault or someone else’s fault…
Children are safer riding to school in a School Bus than being transported by car, truck, etc!
Another school bus accident? Would love to know the cause of this one, from the driver of the pickup truck… (Texting, intoxicated, not paying attention to see something big and yellow coming at you, tired and falling to sleep?) So glad to hear that no one was hurt, but people out there on these roads need to pay more attention to what is going on on the roads instead of other things that distracts them whether it be any of the above thoughts of the accident. I guess one never knows the cause unless they were actually there, but this is getting a little scarry to even put our children on the buses… Alot of bus accidents lately.
They don’t see the BIG yellow thing coming at them because they was on the phone texting,, What about the ones that run into the back of the buses.
Geez Smith, how many lanes do you NEED to drive a vehicle? Should we just give you the entire ROAD for your convenience? Stay in your own lane, my 15 year-old is smart enough to do it, what’s your problem?
