Man Accused Of Dumping Cantonment Woman’s Body In Dumpster Remains Jailed

February 11, 2010

Scott Joseph Thompson will remain behind bars for now as he awaits trial on charges that he murdered Cheryl Cain, the Cantonment woman whose body was found in a Pensacola dumpster back in March.

Thompson’s court appointed attorney, Cheryl Alverson, had asked the court to allow bond for Thompson, but she withdrew that request this week just prior to a hearing. He remains in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

Thompson, 30, has been held without bond since his arrest on June 9. When he was arrested on the second degree murder charges,  he was already in the Escambia County Jail for violating probation on 2007 narcotics charges, according to court records, waiting for a bed to become available in a drug treatment facility.

Cain’s body was found in a dumpster behind a Highway 29 gas station in Pensacola on March 25.

DNA evidence from the dumpster and in Cain’s car were used to charge Thompson with murder, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department. Thompson’s DNA was reportedly found in Cain’s vehicle, which was located after the murder at a Pensacola motel.

Cain’s wallet was found under Thompson’s bed, authorities said. Thompson was the roommate of Cain’s ex-boyfriend, according to authorities.

In July, Thompson plead not guilty to the murder charges. He will be back in court in late February for a docket hearing, and his jury trial is scheduled to being in March.

The average electrocution takes seven minutes and Florida is the only remaining state that uses it due to its poor performance and constitutional problems. I just read this last night.

You tell’em ….J….I keep wondering why people think a criminal should have rights? I feel like they gave up rights when they kill, rape, molest, etc. prison is for punishment.

To all those who would say that the chair is cruel…it only lasts for a few seconds, unlike a firing squad or hanging….question, how long must this girl have suffered, most likely more than a few seconds…………………for those who say the chair is not a deterrant (?) my response is that it was NEVER MEANT to be a deterrant, it has always been used as a PUNISHMENT! Does it deter people from committing crimes? Possibly, and maybe even more so if it were a public execution…but still, it is meant as a punishment.

    mommy,
    we ALL understand.
Nobody likes to hear somebody thought so little of a young woman that
they abused her, killed her, and then threw her in the dumpster like
garbage, you don’t have to know her to know this isn’t right!

    It just makes me cry!

Sorry to say that the bleeding hearts and the courts outlawed “Old Sparkey”. It may have acted as a deterrent a few times.

    huh! whaaat!

    yummmmmmmmmmmmm coffee…….

    ok i’m ready.

This is just horrible, this little scumbag should do a road gang
    or yep….bring out the chair.

This girl doesn’t get HER life back, why should he have one.
How many ppl did he hurt with this action. HER and her mother and
father? Her siblings? Her aunts and uncles? Maybe even
    her ex-boyfriend. Who knows?
What won’t she do in her lifetime, that if she had lived she
    may have contributed to society.
Maybe she would have been a doctor and saved children
who were dying of cancer. Maybe not!
But now we will never know

    ooops….sorry bout that…

What little info there is certainly points to him, and if I were LEO I’d be having some long discussions with the ex boyfriend as well. They could both be involved in this.

I have no idea if the man killed that young lady or not. But if he did. Crank up the chair.
