Man Robbed At Gunpoint

February 26, 2010

An 18-year old Century man is recovering after being injured as he was allegedly robbed at gunpoint Thursday.

The victim told Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he was in the yard of home in the 100 block of Zion Street talking to the suspect in the case. That’s when the suspect asked to borrow a dollar from the victim, and the victim agreed. The suspect then reportedly walked into a trailer, returned outside and told the victim “Give it up”.

deputycar10.jpgThe victim said that he remembered being hit in the head with the gun and hearing gunfire, but he did not think he had been shot. The victim them walked to the nearby Dollar General store on nearby North Century Boulevard. That’s where he located his aunt. The aunt transported the victim to his home in the 200 block of East Hecker Road and called 911. The victim was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment of a head injury.

The suspect was able to steal a sum of money much greater than the $1, according to the report.  The suspect and the victim were reportedly known to each other.

According to the sheriff’s office incident report, the victim was treated for a laceration to his head that was not the result of being shot.

Deputies David Preston and Scott Mashburn, according to the incident report, were unable to locate the suspect or any witnesses.

The Sheriff’s Office is in the progress of having a warrant issued for the arrest of the suspect. It is expected that he will be charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm.

The incident is still under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

    REGARDING:
“This is really wierd, what would the suspect be wanting $1.00 for from the victom? ”

I don’t really know, of course, but some people ask for money because people reach toward where they keep it.

It is a way to see where to grab.

For others, it is a way of throwing them off balance.

For others, it is an entry concept: all but the most hard hearted (like me, for instance) would spare a dollar. Then when the idea of giving is established, they raise the amount requested/demanded..

“why would the aunt take the victom to his house and then call 911 instead of just taking the victom to the hospital herself? ”

Could be too upset to think straight.

Could think it wasn’t all that serious then decide it might be and that trained professionals were needed.

Might be scared of the people of Jay, scared to go alone. Not that anybody should be, but that some are.

“Whats the law now for the use of a gun in a crime like this? Is it 20 years to life. I’m not sure,”

Me not know but it’s armed robbery and battery and assault at least. My sixth grade teacher and principal once told me of a man who went into a store, came up to the cash register, saw the money, pulled out his hammer and caved in the cashier’s face with the hammer, stole the entire till–maybe $40 although I think it was less, got 20 years for armed robbery.

The lady’s face was messed up for the rest of her life.

I think he got off light.

Until I see some reason to do so, I am neither assuming a drug deal nor blaming the victim.

    Nice one bill,
but it seems if you don’t catch something someone who disagrees with
you starts calling you names. I usually pass on bothering to say something
back. lol I just try to keep the name calling down in here.

Good afternoon NOYB..that reminds me of a friend who offered a guy on the side of the road holding one of those signs some cigerettes once. The guy looked at him an said no thanks, not my brand..LOL..can you be picky while begging?

And that correct spelling on plausiable, i’m glade that some of you can proof read well enough to see. I never see my mistakes until it posted. But if people want correct spelling an grammer from me, well just pass me on my and read a what somebody else had to say. :)

Well, both ways sounds plausible to me, sorry if didn’t spell that right.
    The truth will come out.

My husband is out on a route everyday, and ppl in bad neighborhoods
all the time ask him for a cigerette and he gives them 10.
He is such a nice guy, but then I do the same myself, always feeling
a bit sorry for someone who is on the down.
Everyone has been there in their life at one time or another.
You don’t know their story it may have been something out of their
control, or they may just be a lazy mooch. Who knows!

BUT, everytime my husband tells me a new story about one of
these ppl mooching, I am relieved that he wasn’t killed for
    the whole pack.

This incident could have been exactly as this guy reported it.
My husband has known a lot of his customers for years who
have asked him for things, however, he never ever pulls out
    his wallet!!

Looking into my crystal ball…..here’s what I see: Guy A buys some amount of drugs from Guy B. Guy A now knows that Guy B has a couple hundred bucks in his wallet. Guy A knows that Guy B got the money from slinging drugs and isn’t likely to call the cops. Guy A smacks Guy B and takes the money.

    Case closed.

    Next!

Poor kid, loans a guy a dollar, the guy probably sees all the money the kid has then robs him? Sad that it has come to this. I am sure this kid was scared and was looking for his aunt to help him. That is scary! If it happened to be about a deal gone bad, seems like the guy with the gun would have shot him, not just hit him over the head with a gun. You know leave no witnesses, especially since they knew each other, just my humble opinion.

    I agree with Angi

Yeah why would the aunt take him to his home and not seek medical attention right away. CRAZY!!! and that is why I think there is more to the story.

  11. William on February 26th, 2010 9:24 am

Nothing in the info that has been released on this one points to a drug deal; it really looks like a robbery.

  12. blahblah on February 26th, 2010 9:18 am

Sounds like these boys need to get a job. Too much time on their hands dealing with their drug issues.. So sad that our small little town is coming to this. Get a life!!!

  13. Angi on February 26th, 2010 9:10 am

1rst was the victom shot or not? 2nd why would the aunt take the victom to his house and then call 911 instead of just taking the victom to the hospital herself? This is really wierd, what would the suspect be wanting $1.00 for from the victom? Does sound to me that it was probably a drug deal gone bad, just my opinion… Hope the victom is alright…

  14. laugh a little on February 26th, 2010 9:04 am

I would guess the crime would carry the inposed minimum sentance for involving a gun. I have read other stories where this was done and the gun was never fired just flashed. I would think this time as it was used as a weapon (not like it was designed to be used, but used all the same) it will carry the penality. it seems odd that the fellow would goto his aunt and then go home prior to calling 911. why not call from the dollar general? we will need to see what happens with this one.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions, but that’s the first thing I thought, too, when I saw this story, Wild Bill.

  16. bill, big b little ill on February 26th, 2010 7:28 am

I agree Wild Bill….maybe the whole story will come out soon. But it is possible the guy is just that whacked.

  17. Wild Bill on February 26th, 2010 6:43 am

Sounds more like a drug deal gone bad.

  18. bill, big b little ill on February 26th, 2010 6:24 am

Brilliant, borrow a dollar from someone you know, then rob them at gun point. Whack them in the head with the gun. Whats the law now for the use of a gun in a crime like this? Is it 20 years to life. I’m not sure, but it’s just brilliant.
