Emmitt Smith of Pensacola was a first-ballot selection Saturday to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Smith is the NFL’s all-time leading rusher, with 18,355 yards. The Escambia High School graduate scored a record 164 rushing touchdowns. He won four NFL rushing titles and gained 1,000 yards in a record 11 straight seasons.

He was joined by guard Russ Grimm, linebacker Rickey Jackson, cornerback Dick LeBeau, running back Floyd Little, defensive tackle John Randle and wide receiver Jerry Rice to make up the Class of 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinees.

The seven-man class was elected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee who met today in South Florida. The newest members of the Hall were selected from a list of 17 finalists who had been determined earlier by the committee.

The 2010 class will increase to 260 the number of all-time greats permanently honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Enshrinement of the Class of 2010 will take place at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. ET. One tenth uh. Lets see, I finished high school, got a job that I worked at and retired from after 35 years, went to college during that time, got married, raised children, I sure hope that’s close. I did play some football growing up. on a team of course.

according to whitepunk, you would think that em&it came up with the cure for cancer. Yes he used to be able to run with a football. Dang man, just think what he could have done if he had some teammates. Oh but he was just a football player, thats it.HE AIN’T NOTHING WITHOUT THE TEAM.

I don’t particularly care about Emmitt one way or the other but it’s clear that he’s one of the great football players. All you sad detractors go to sleep at night and maybe (if you’re lucky) you’ll have a dream where you accomplish one tenth of what this man has. You’re all pretty pathetic. Best to stick to your convenience store jobs and auto repair gigs, all this typing is not working too well for ya!

Well, I guess the price of his autographs will go up. Also, Emmit went back to school and got a degree I think in Recreational Management what the hell is that. Oh he can drive by your local park and see if you needs some mo sports equipment. LOL

IT’S OK FOR A COACH TO BREAK HIS CONTRACT BUT YOU COMPLAIN WHEN
A PLAYER DECIDES TO LEAVE COLLEGE EARLY. THE SCHOOLS MAKES MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OFF THESE KIDS, SO IN THE FUTURE DON’T COMPLAIN WHEN ONE OF THESE KIDS GET TRIED OF ENTERTAINING YOU
ON THE WEEKEND. IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AROUND ROY JONES IS THE ONLY
GREAT ATHELETE WHO STAYED IN ESCAMBIA COUNTY AND THATS IS BECAUSE HE NEEDS YOUR ACCEPTANCE. I DON’T BLAME EMMITT FOR
    LEAVING THIS PREJUDICE COUNTY.

Emmitt who? Oh that guy that used to let escambia gators pay on his team. Yea I still remember. Always anounced as emmitt smith (and) the escambia gators. Yes he was good but one man don’t make a team. Then off to Dallas where he forgot that he was from escambia co fl. What was it ? a 19 million dollar signing bonus, then came back to charged kids 20 dollars to sign a jersey…..call it just business. like I said em & it who?

oh yea, he played for fl gators and like so many on a scholarship leaves early for the pros. People if you accept a scholarship, don’t you think you owe it to the people who paid for it, to finish it.

Just another washed up football player to me.

U.S. Marshals arrested former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith outside ESPN’s “NFL Live” Super Bowl set this weekend where he was working as a football analyst. According to officials, he will be charged with a first-degree count of murdering the English language.

Among the evidence against the future Hall of Famer is a quote from a November episode of “NFL Countdown.” On camera, Smith said the Patriots “be doing all the things good and is well on them way to a Super Bowl.”

Observers say quotes like that from Smith aren’t rare and that he’s has been murdering the English language for years.

“It is almost like he reads this stuff backwards,” said ESPN teleprompter operator Tommy Mendez. “It’s worse than Berman and his never-ending string of stale catchphrases.”

U.S. Marshal Sam Steinbach said that officials will wait until after the Super Bowl coverage to arraign him but the punishment will be no fewer than two years in a rudimentary grammar program.

“Smith was a great player and a heck of a dancer,” said Steinbach. “But he is the O.J. Simpson of a murdering of the English language.”

Smith is the first Dallas professional athlete to be charged with murdering the English language since 1984 when Rangers OF Mickey Rivers was quoted saying “I might have to commute. You know, left field, DH, wherever.”
