Escambia Sheriff Sergeant Back Behind Bars

February 4, 2010

An Escambia County deputy first arrested in January after getting into a fight with his wife was booked back into the Escambia County Wednesday afternoon.

henley.jpgSgt. Edward Henley, 44, was arrested January 16 and charged with  false imprisonment, battery and assault domestic violence. He was released from jail three days later with  conditions that included no contact with his wife.

Sunday, Henley allegedly had a neighbor enter the Henley residence in Cantonment with a key provided by Edward Henley to retrieve a radio charger. The neighbor had also been checking the family’s mail for Henley, reports say.

Henley is now being held in the county jail without bond.

Deputies responded to a 911 call on Kingsfield Road in Cantonment at about 12:45 a.m. on January 16, according to Sgt. Ted Roy, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department. When deputies arrived and found a marked ECSO patrol car in the driveway, they alerted a supervisor.

“Contact was made with the victim who stated that she and her husband, Sgt. Edward Henley, an Escambia County Deputy of 22 years, were out at a party earlier in the evening,” Roy said. “According to the victim, they began arguing on the way home and once at the residence the argument escalated into a physical confrontation. The victim stated she was struck by the suspect several times at the residence.”

Roy said Henley was charged based upon physical evidence gathered at the scene and statements made.

    This man really bothers me.
He was so long on the job.
This was a job that he could have been a HERO!
He could have laid his head down every night knowing the good he
does for everyone. Not just a hero, but this is the stuff that REAL MEN
    ARE MADE OF!
That he put his back on the wall, and it was his watch, and he
    was OUR HERO!
In time the whole town would know what this man was made of….
This could have been a story for his grand children and their
grand children for generations to come.
HE COULD HAVE BEEN A MAN LOVED BY A WHOLE TOWN.

Why do you find out so many of them go the wrong way.
Get involved in things that they shouldn’t.
Do the wrong thing on and off the job.

How could they do this to themselves, AND everyone else!
    I know ppl make mistakes…..
But this guy had it made!
My thoughts in writing here could have been so different!

Somebody should have sat this guy down when he got this badge and
    gun…..
Talked to him about family, honor, and long term reflection.

I make fun, because otherwise I would CRY!

    Frustrated is right!

The law is very clear about these things, and the JUDGE tells them
    their Rights! Which are NONE!

NO trespass by them, or any agent they send. Thats the LAW!
If the police did nothing, than thats a lot of hog wash.
SOMEONE should have called over their heads.
They wouldn’t have got one thing out of my house, or I would have
been getting proof and sending any little thing I got to my lawyer
    for safe keeping.

YOU know ppl, There are things at radio shack called Swann
Security Camera’s. You attach them high up in a tree at your home
and they can get your whole yard and if they are attached to a
VCR, you can tape everything. They even have sound so you
can hear everything they say. If you attach them to a TV you
can have live feed right into your house. You can even put one
set in a shed and have it hard wired and no one will know.
You can then put some out in the open for everyone to see
and they will think thats all there is. Run a big orange cord to
it from the house that everyone can see. They will think thats it,
    thats all you got. lol

Now at my house I had to put in many of them, I have a big place.

It’s amazing what you catch on tape!

    I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS!

This is way too much trouble for this place, I will move when
    the place sells.

However, everyone should know, when the COPS won’t help you
and tell you there is nothing THEY can do. YOU DO HAVE OPTIONS.
These swanns cost about $200.00 for a pair. Each receiver will
take 4. You CAN use, however, only two if thats what you need.
A used VCR can be gotten from the pawn shop for about $30.00,
and the blank tapes are a dollar or something like that at
Dollar General or the Dollar store, I always forget which.

Hope this helps any of you with a problem, that the COPS can’t
    or won’t do anything about!

None of this makes sense. I had a friend with a restraining order against her husband, he was in jail with no bond awaiting trial, which he was convicted and sentenced to a couple of years for VOP and convicted of battery. His friends were allowed to come take whatever they wanted to out of their house. They backed up a box truck and loaded it down, furniture, tried to get everything. She called the law and they told her nothing she could do about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that was definately 3rd party interference! Then they continually drove around the block stalking her waiting on her to leave the house so they could load again. They even moved a old car into her driveway to block HER entrance to her own house. Law said, nothing we can do, now THAT makes no sense!

It says a lot about this guy, that he screwed up TWICE.

Every officer knows that they can return to retrive personal items only
with an officer present, and that third party entry is the same as them
going in. You can’t send someone else. He knew that! You can’t
touch the mail. It’s over…..NO CONTACT!

This guy still thinks he is ABOVE THE LAW AND DOESN’T CONTROL
HIMSELF. Even after he has ruined his life and his families, to say
nothing of his retirement, he thinks nothing of doing any stupid thing
    he wants.

I CAN ONLY GUESS WHAT KIND OF OFFICER HE WAS!

    JackRuby,

That is the guideline for the legal system; fortunately, the court of public opinion is not bound by those constraints.

That being said, this guy just doesn’t get it. I wonder if he made the same brilliant decisions as a Sheriff’s Sergeant?

Henley allegedly had a neighbor enter the Henley residence in Cantonment with a key provided by Edward Henley to retrieve a radio charger.

Isn’t he on PAID administrative leave? Assuming that this is a hand-held police radio charger, why would he need this charger in the first place? But even if he did have justification for needing the charger, why wouldn’t he ask for a police escort (which they often do) while returning to the property to retrieve personal property. Something doesn’t add up here…………..

NOT GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT used to be the law. Clearly, it no longer is for most people. I think that the man is INNOCENT until proven guilty. Thank god you have not had experience with the legal system or you would know how important it is to be NOT GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT.

Boy did he mess up. I glad to hear that he was not above the law. Good work ECSD. The sad thing is what ever cause this to go this far just set that family back I mean he had 22 years with the department and can retire with full retirement at 25 years. He surely will lose his job and his family will suffer.
