The Atmore Police Department and the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board conducted a surprise “inspection” of the Chick A Dee Club after receiving complaints about underage drinking at the nightclub.

16teens.jpg“Officers entered the Chick A Dee Club just after midnight Friday night. As a result of this inspection 16 people with ages ranging from 17 years to 20 years of age were arrested and charged with minor in consumption of alcohol. One adult was charged with consuming while serving,” according to Glen Carlee, Atmore director of public safety.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Department officers transported all of those arrested to the Escambia County Detention Center.

“Numerous other minors below the age of 19 were also in the club, however they tested negative for alcohol consumption and were sent home with parents,” Carlee said. “The owners of the club will face Administrative Charges from the Alcohol Beverage Control Board. The Atmore Police Department will continue to monitor the operation of this facility and report and illegal activity or license violations to the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and to the Atmore City Council.”

The Chick A Dee Club is located at 55 Carver Avenue in Atmore.

    It starts at home….
    It goes forever….
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE, WHAT THEY
ARE DOING, AND WHO THEY ARE WITH.

Granted when they are grown you kick them out and make them fly.
If you are really good at your job they will fly high like an eagle and
    make you proud..

Even a bird knows when to kick their young out of the nest.

But they are yours and they will remain yours forever more.
PAY ATTENTION, they need your advice and wisdom till the
    day you DIE!

In this particular situation, most of the “adults in charge” of these teenagers truly don’t care where their children are or what they are doing. In fact, I would venture to say that some of those “adults” were probably there with them drinking.

No, you can’t watch your teenagers 24/7, and, yes, they do need to be taught values, morals, and principles–beginning at home. Which takes me back to my original thought–those “adults in charge.”

It doesn’t matter if you do know where your children are, they are going to do all of the things mentioned above if and when they get ready…..and they will and can do them all, right under your roof and nose…..they need to be taught right from wrong and the dangers of doing these things when they are young

“do YOU know where your children are??”….that was a timely announcement that was broadcast on local television around 11 pm when i was young…..maybe some parents need to be reminded to keep up with their kids, as its THE PARENTS that will HAVE to assume (some of) the financial downfall that is bound to happen when underaged “children” drink and then, go on to make life changing decisions..(MVA, PREGNANCIES, CRIME,DRUG USE- just to name a few things off the top of my head)

I would agree with angi that no one under 21 should be allowed in bars. too much temptation for the young ones. and like she said, someone else can get the drinks for them. there was a reason the drinking age was raised to 21 from 18. not that we were more mature back then. I just don’t think it should be that easy for under age people to get booze.

From what i remember, they were denied the new license for quite a long period of time, but were finally given it back…who made the decision to give it back to them? the council??? they KNOW of the problems in that neighborhood with these bars, especially this one…oh well, they get what they reap, they gave it back to them, so they basically gave the underage kids a place to go drink, they will be the next ones out drinking and drivin….

I’m glad the police are doing these type of things. However, if underage drinking is the worst thing that these kids do before they are grown then they are doing pretty good. Whats pretty amazing to me is it seems like teens use better judgement when it comes to drinking and driving than adults do.

this is nothing new for this place. but then the owners will whine and complain if they are shut down. too freaking bad. sounds very similiar to what happened at the “baby shower” in flomaton or century recently. shut them down

The way I look at it is, all bars should not be allowed to let anyone in that is under the age of 21, making sure that someone is sitting at the door to take a cover charge to get in and also checking for proper ID. I understand that alot of these bars now will let people in that are under the age of 21 and maybe mark an X on their hands, but still; by putting an X on their hands doesn’t stop them from getting someone else to buy them alcohol… However alot of the kids will even do this on the streets too, but if this business wants to keep their liqour license then they will change the rules of thier bar, and make it 21 and above to enter. I know that liqour license are sometimes very hard to get and very expensive, so if you want to keep your bar open and still have your license then you need to change your rules for entering the bar… Good job atmore PD for doing your job…

Lord what’s next. for this great town i live in.You know it wouldn’t surprise me if most of those kids will either drop out of school or end up knocked up by the end of the year.

  15. No Doubt on February 9th, 2010 3:36 pm

I thought that when they were given back their license they promised for a better night club. slap in the face is what they got. Close them down now and it will help with under age drinking. Kids if a place like that to party then they will be there every time the door is open. Again shut them down now don’t give them a slap on the hand.

  16. FYI on February 9th, 2010 3:25 pm

And I’m sure they were all at school on time this morning all bright eyed and bushy-tailed and ready to learn new things.

WoW, big suprise here, this seems so unlikely for this club! (total sarcasum) I am glad Atmore PD is watching them and taking care of bussiness!
