dui-arrest-038.jpgAn Atmore man was arrested for driving under the influence following a Friday afternoon wreck in McDavid.

The Florida Highway Patrol says David Allen Pearson, 36, of Beck Street, Atmore, was southbound on Highway 29 when he struck the back of a box-type truck operated by a shredding company. The front passenger side corner of Pearson’s older model Oldsmobile Eighty-eight traveled all the way under the truck until it struck the truck’s tires. Pearson and the truck driver were able to pull to the side of Highway 29.

The accident happened within 10 minutes of a possible drunk driver being reported to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was reported to be on Byrneville Road, a short distance from the accident site. Deputies were enroute to the area when the accident occurred.

pearsondavid.jpgPearson refused treatment from Escambia County EMS. After a field sobriety test, Pearson was placed under arrest by Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Chambliss. Pearson was booked into the Escambia County Jail where he was being held without bond. He is suspected of driving under the influence of prescription medication.

i’d like to know who the dr is that keeps prescribing the medications to him….there is one that i know of that keeps doing the same for people and i don’t understand how they don’t get stopped by the state that monitors the records of people that are given narcotics. I know it has to be reported….i know people who go to him repeatedly month after month, year after year and it keeps being given to them….?????????

It just AMAZES me that in a situation ike this concerning a hardship in someone’s life, that is destroying a man & his family, ALL some people can comment about is being a BAMA fan! So what are you a fan of? Kicking people when they are down? That’s not very sportsman like! What does that say for the type of fan you are?

  4. Bill2 on February 9th, 2010 2:44 pm

David is a good person that has become another victim of prescription drugs! He began taking prescriptions drugs because he had chronic back pain. He once had a wife, & children, with a nice home & nice vehicles, a good job! Like always the prescription stops working and you have to take more & more. They changed David & ultimately caused him to loose EVERYTHING!! It wasn’t just because he wanted to party! This happens to GOOD people EVERYDAY!! Our dr’s and the system is failing people that have pain. They know these RX’s are addictive yet they constantly write them to the same people! If they can put limits on buying sudafed from over the counter than the drs should have a national system where they can look to see if someone has been arrested for driving under the influence of them, & have meetings with the patients and their families to see if they are becoming addicted & ruining their lives & stop writing them RX’s. RX’s are the EASIEST drug for normal people to get! It ruins alot of people’s live’s! Please pray for him & every other victim of RX addiction!

I feel sad for his family. We have a friend that takes his heart and cancer meds with beer and drinks all day and when he runs out he drives to the store for more no matter how drunk. I hope he never kills with his truck.Like all drunks he will come out of it alive.Sometimes something like this happens to make one stop and think.

Maybe he was a Fl Gator that lost a bet and had to wear Al hat & jersey till next season. Who knows…..he needs to call on friends or family to help him rather than drive under the influence.

Prescription meds, illegal drugs, or alcohol, the law makes no differentiation.

I’m sure the container didn’t have the usual warnings on it, right? I bet the pharmacist or doctor didn’t warn him, right?

Many people think they are above it or think that it won’t affect them. As patients, we can ask for medications that won’t cause us to be put in that situation.

Many who would never be caught using illegal drugs and driving or drinking and driving will do it after taking prescription medication. We have got to slow down and think. (I am speaking to myself as well)

Our daughter was killed 20 years ago by a idiot driving on drugs, look at the front of his car. THAT JUST AS WELL COULD HAVE BEEN YOUR CHILD. Oh by the way, he got to carry on with his life, even though he had a string of traffic violations a mile long. Lawyer got him off because they could not prove he took the drugs that day, even though it was in his blood. Cost his grandpa 500.00, to pay a killers trafic fine.

DUI, DUDE. driving under the influence, meds, dope, beer, liquor. It don’t matter, it’s still DUI, drunk or dopie

  17. Hippocrite on February 6th, 2010 1:21 pm

Yeah dude messed up, yeah he could have killed somebody, yes he should have known better, and no drinking and driving is never a good idea, but read the article people he wasn’t drinking. If your gonna comment on something at least know what your talking about. Everbody is so quick to jump to conclusions and judge everyone else…….wait a minute I think I just that very thing. Nevermind yall fire away.

  18. FYI on February 6th, 2010 11:20 am

I don’t know the whole situation so I won’t comment except to say that I was recently prescribed some Rx cough syrup which had a warning on it about not taking it and driving, etc. I was glad I heeded those warnings because I made sure I took it only at home, not when I had to leave and go to work. It made me dizzy and made me lose my balance at home and fall. It also gave me strange dreams and I couldn’t wait to stop the Rx. The doctor said he was having a hard time getting school bus drivers, teachers and school staff well, as long as school children, because nobody would or could take the time to stay home while they are contagious and get well. “The bugs just go ’round and ’round. It’s a shame we are under such pressure.

As stated in the news report, He was under prescription medication. So many times people started judging before someone is convicted. Fact is medication can affect different people differently. What may make one person sleepy may make someone stay awake. David is a very good person and had been prescribed a medication by his doctor. By no means is what happen right. But when you take a medication it can impair your judgment. Thankfully no one was injured.

I sure wish if people were going to drink alcohol, that they would do it at home and not somewhere else where they have to get out on the roads and harm themselves/others… At least have a designated driver if you feel the need to go party and drink, there have been so many of these accidents lately because of people driving drunk… Please people, stop and think of yourselves and others that you could be causing harm to by doing such a foolish and not so responsible thing, I wouldn’t want to hear of your deaths or someone else’s that you may have caused. Could you live with knowing that you killed someone from doing something as foolish as having a few drinks and getting on the roads. Think about it, and please get help before this happens…

  21. No, to DUI on February 6th, 2010 9:18 am

He is suspected of driving under the influence of prescription medication.

    Which is just as dangerous!

Rx drugs are way over used!

People want a pill for everything!

  22. bill, big b little ill on February 6th, 2010 7:26 am

Would be great if a DUI would keep the drunks off the road. But nooooo, they have to keep on driving and drinking. Hope he gets help before he kill someone.
