January 27, 2010

Eighth and ninth grade students will have the chance Thursday night to learn about the career academies available to them at high schools in Escambia County.

The Escambia County School District’s Workforce Education Department will host the second annual Career Academy Fair, Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., in the B.T. All current students and families of eighth and ninth grade students in Escambia County are invited to attend the Career Academy Fair to meet academy instructors, students, and business partners, and discover opportunities provided through participation in career academies.

The Escambia County School District’s School Choice Department will have applications available and will be accepting Career Academy applications for the academies represented at the fair. Transportation is provided for students on the Northend ! A bus makes stops at several sites for students wanting to attend one of these other high schools.

If you live in the north end, don’t bother going! The only academy offered at Northview is about construction and there is no transportation provided to any of the other high schools. Northview is the only high school that has only one academy, every other high school in the county has at least three, some even have five. I was told that there was not enough funding for anymore academies at Northview, apparently that means just not enough funding for the north end schools.
