During Job Interview At Sheriff’s Dept., Local Man Admits To Child Porn

January 7, 2010

A former North Escambia resident applying for a job at the Escambia County Jail ended up in jail after he admitted during his job interview that he had child pornography on his computer.

burnettewilliamclarence.jpgClarence W. Burnette, 25, of Little Paul Lane, Jay, was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail and will be charged with one count of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. According to Escambia County Clerk of Court records, Burnette was a resident of Water Tank Road in Bratt during August, 2009, and the 5000 block of Highway 4 in Bratt in 2003.

Burnette, 25, had applied for a position as a detention deputy, known also as a corrections officer, with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. He told deputies during his pre-employment polygraph test that he possessed images of child pornography. CyberCrime investigators interviewed Burnette at his home in the Sellersville community near Jay, and Burnette admitted to possessing images of child pornography, according to the Florida Attorney General’s Office. Investigators seized a computer and conducted forensic analysis to confirm child pornography was indeed on the computer.

Additional charges may be added at a later date, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Burnette will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office for the First Judicial Circuit.

He was released without bond from the Santa Rosa County Jail.

Burnette was arrested by the Attorney General’s CyberCrime Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshall’s task force, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

For the life of me, I don’t understand these people that have this type stuff on their computers. It is a very sickening thought that someone would get their thrills from such things like this. I really can’t believe that they let this guy out of jail with no bond…

    Dear Cynical,
Rehabilitation may never work, but another point you mentioned is interesting: You’re right, he only is in possession of 0’s and 1’s – bits and bytes of data forming pictures. If we save a news story showing pictures or videos of a crime scene, or other criminal event…does THAT also make US criminals? Not according to current law, but what’s the difference? Interesting legal point. I can go along with criminalizing the PURCHASE of child pornography because that feeds the monster, so to speak. It probably needs a Supreme Court examination. Meanwhile, any of the new body scans of children at airports will violate current child porn laws, or so I understand. Meanwhile the news media profits from crime with impunity…our right to know and all that. Delicate stuff.

Can we say “Here’s your sign”… This is one brilliant person!! (eyes rolling) LMAO!!

Herein lies an opportunity for counseling and rehabilitation, assuming that he simply is/was in possession of 0’s and 1’s in an unacceptable format, as opposed to having had contact with actual human victims.

Any – absolutely ANY human life is worth a shot at salvaging. Maybe it’s now his turn to be something or someone else.

Like as not he was released without bond after having been deemed to be no threat to society, ie: no evidence of actual real-world offending.

Be worth keeping an eye on him though.

Wonder what the REST of the story is?

WOW! Four different units to make one arrest where the guy has already confessed. Sounds like overkill to me. Of course he was so dangerous that they released him without posting a bond. I’m just a little bit confused. I THINK HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL WITHOUT BOND!

LOCK HIM UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY !!!!!

Wow i think it is great when people tell on themselves. Saves us a lot of money and time trying to find them. Anyone else who wants to come clean about some crimes now is the time, seems like a great ideal

  11. Thinker on January 7th, 2010 11:13 am

Stupid? Not necessarily. A conscience may be at work here. Given the ideal opportunity to confess (not being Catholic, probably, and lacking a Priest) he confessed. Give him credit for that.

After working with the fringes of society for years in my jobs, I’m convinced that, like homosexuality, lusting for children may have a genetic component. My reasoning is the fact that these people seem impossible to rehabilitate. But only a good psychiatrist may determine whether it is nurture or nature in any given person. We may have proof of this theory one day soon, and a DNA test will then be used to reveal it.

I just found (having never searched for it before) some validation for my hunch. 4% of us are pedophiles per this article: http://www.registeredoffenderslist.org/what-is-pedophilia.htm

I doubt he’ll abscond because he’s too stupid. You have to wonder what makes this reject of society tick.

    Stupid is, as stupid does!

I don’t understand WHY this creep was let out with no bond!

I guess anybody who desires children aren’t a very high prioity!

    This guy will probably disappear.
