Three people, including two children, were injured when the driver of a car apparently drove under the trailer of an 18-wheeler Tuesday night in McDavid.

Madeline Hope Johnson, 28, failed to stop at the end of Highway 164 at Highway 29 about 7:15 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Her Pontiac Grand Prix traveled into the path of a southbound 18-wheeler on Highway 29 driven by Willie Lee Bell, 56, of Atlanta. The trailer tires apparently ran over the front of the Grand Prix, flattening the front of the car.

Johnson and her two children, ages eight and 12, were transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Johnson’s injuries were considered minor; the conditions of the children were not available.

Johnson told authorities that her brakes failed. Firemen at the nearby McDavid fire station said they heard the collision, but they never heard either vehicle brake. According to the FHP, Bell said he was southbound in the outside lane of Highway 29 when he barely saw the car approaching the intersection. He changed lanes, but was unable to avoid the crash.

The accident is still under investigation by the FHP.

The McDavid Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS, Atmore Ambulance and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

They are in my prayers. About seventeen years ago I was in Gulf Breeze leaving Food World at the stop light out front of the store and started to pull across the highway when the light changed I heard a horn blowing long and hard and then breaks of a guy running the light. The person behind him sat on his horn. If he had not blown the horn I would have gotten t boned.I have always wanted to thank him so if he is reading this, thank you so much for blowing your horn.If you see someone going through a red light or close to getting into an accident of any kind blow the horn hard and get their attention, you may very well save a life. People of Pensacola need to also stop waving people across the highway. I hit a man because someone waved him across in front of K Mart on 9 mile rd. When your driving home drive safely , think about your family waiting for you to arrive to spend the evening with them.

    wow
How awful, I hope they will be fine.
I hate that there was no condition of the children reported, but I understand
sometimes that is just not available before these stories go out!
