Deputies Seek Info On 1981 Murder

January 2, 2010

murder11.jpgIt was 29 years ago on the afternoon of January 2, 1981 that 9-year old Kenneth Deshun Underwood and three companions went bird hunting in the woods near their Cantonment home. Everyone returned home that afternoon except for Underwood.

When Underwood was still not home around 6 p.m., Escambia County Search and Rescue personnel were called. The area were Underwood was last seen alive was canvassed. His body was discovered about 5:45 the next morning –apparently murdered — in an area near Booker Street.

The case remains unsolved, and now the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help because they believe someone in our area still has information about Underwood’s death.

If you know anything about the death of Kenneth Deshun Underwood, 9, you are asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit at (850) 436-9580 or Crime Stopper at (850) 433-STOP (7867). Crime Stoppers also receives tips at gulfcoastcrimestoppers.org.

I’m wondering the same as “Hmmm”. Why did everyone else return Except the 9-year old. Was he hunting by himself? Was he left behind while the others went on their way? Have the others involved been thoroughly investigated? I am assuming they have been but it never hurts to ask. I do not remember this story, but it sounds extremely fishy…..at least from the part that’s been told.

I hope the culprit is caught or has the decency to turn themselves in after all this time.

Very sad, but who would leave a 9yr old in the woods by themselves hunting?

What a shame this child seems forgotten. I did not even remember this story. I know GOD will see to it that his killer serves his time. I pray for his family. I know what it is to lose a child.

The murder of a 9 year old boy.
I can tell you two things nobody from this town is going to talk,
and who ever did this is a coward!

What could a 9 year old boy ever do to anyone! How was some
big brave man threatened by this boy!
