Several Century Roads Closed By Stopped Train

December 6, 2009

Several roads in Century were shut down this morning because of a stopped train.

East Highway 4, East Hecker Road and East Cottage were all closed due for about three hours due to a stopped CSX Transportation train.

The train’s engineer said that there was some type of mechanical problem with the train  which forced it to come to a stop, according to Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy David Preston.

The train did not collide with a vehicle.

They (CSX) block Hwy 29 for 20-30 minutes on a daily basis. For those of you living on the North end of town who are concerned about medical assistance being denied to someone in dire need will someday see your worst fears realized. Something needs to be done to put this company in check soon, before it is too late.

Trains, what would we do without them? I do apprieciate all of our transportation means in our America.

It seems that a simple answer to this blocking of the road has already been answered when they put the few double, triple track PLL OVER TRACKS at varies places away from towns and busy intersection. just for this purpose.
Now if someone would spread the word to use them. I would hate for a fine to be placed upon our trains but they need to remember there are a
lot more of us that when we need to get across, we NEED TO GET ACROSS !
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE ALL TOOK TURNS PARKING OUR TRANSPORTATION ON THE TRACKS FOR AWHILE??

    A LOT I ASSURE YOU..

It always concerns me that one day, if it already hasn’t happened, a heart attack victim or other person in serious danger will die because the road to their rescue by rescuers was blocked by a train. Of concern is Old Atmore Road, although Atmore Ambulances can at least get there. But fire trucks would be delayed from Flomaton. This has been a gripe of local law enforcement for some time…trains stopping and blocking crossings for too long.

Over-passes will someday have to be built. Why not start accumulating funds now.
