UPDATED: Area Road Closures

December 16, 2009

Here is the latest on the roads in and around the North Escambia area:

Escambia County (Fla.)

  • Fannie Road
  • Occie Phillips between Pineville and Highway 97-A
  • Arthur Brown Road between Pineville and Highway 97-A
  • Barrineau Park Road between Highway 99 and the Alabama State line.

Highway 31 and Highway 21 are both  open in Atmore. Highway 97 is open in Florida. Highway 31 is open but detoured around Flomaton High School. Highway 29 is open in Flomaton. Highway 4 between Century and Jay is open. Highway 31 in Brewton is now open.Drivers in both states are urged to excercise extreme caution this morning, and remember…turn around, don’t drown…never drive through water covering the roadway.

We are traveling to Pensacola from Atlanta on Friday, December 18, 2009. We usually cut through Atmore off of 65 South over to Hwy. 29 and the into Pensacola. Can anyone tell me if these roads are now open.

I spoke to the Florida State Road Dept. late this afternoon and at that time they said they were monitoring the Jay Bridge on Hwy 4 but was not planning to close it. Atleast, that was the report about 4pm.

Is the bridge on hwy 4 between Jay and Century going to close?

I’ve just been to Bay Minette and now home from there via Hwy 31 and at this time it is not closed. Closure may be on Dyas Rd itself off of the highway but as of 30 min. ago there was no issue traveling to Bay Minette. That may all change as the rain continues, however.

Perdido Resident — I’ve been told they will have to wait for the water to go down before they can do a complete assessment of the Hwy 31 bridge between Atmore and Bay Minette.

Does anyone know how bad the damage to the bridge between Atmore and Bay Minette is?

    > I am not that familiar with this area and I need to get to Bay Minette from Jay.

East Hwy 4 from Jay to Century. Turn left (south) on Hwy 29 in Century. Turn right on West Highway 4. Highway 4 to Highway 97. Turn right on Highway 97 to Atmore. Continue in Atmore on Hwy 21 to I-65. Take I-65 south to the Bay Minette exit.

Highway 4 is not closing anytime soon. But as the river reaches crest in 24-36 hours, I’m told it will flood the Santa Rosa side.
