Two teens were uninjured in a single vehicle accident late Thanksgiving night in Davisville.

The accident happened just before 11 p.m. on Greenland Road, near Hodges Road. The 16-year old driver of a GMC Jimmy apparently failed to negotiate a 90-degree curve on Greenland Road and overturned into a ditch. The driver and her 15-year old passenger were not injured in the accident.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Atmore Ambulance responded to the call. The accident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The vehicle reportedly came to rest in a ditch, but it had been pulled out of the ditch by friends of the driver before emergency workers arrived on scene. NorthEscambia.com photo, click to enlarge.

Yeah, it doesn’t take much to lose control of these vehicles. You can be doing the speed limit and something run out in front of you and have a deer (for instance) run out in front of you, you lock down the brakes or swerve to miss, and that’s all she wrote. Emily, glad your ok. These things happen. Be safe out there.

emily..glad that you and your passenger are safe…the article didnt mention the use of seat belts, however, i suspect that you wouldnt have made it through the accident as well as you did without having them on…..my job allows me to see the sad results of those that choose not to wear seat belts (and those that do)..either way, i am definately an advocate for their use…..just glad that you two kids are safe….

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY OR CANT JUST BE THANKFULL THESE TEENS WERE NOT INJURED THEN YOU SHOULD JUST STAY OFF THIS SITE AS THE RULES APPLY TO BE NICE ! THANK THE LORD THESE KIDS ARE OK, AND YES THIS IS THE SAME ROAD 3 PRECIOUS TEENS RECKED ON ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE SAME CURVE AND THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT LIKE PUT SOME MORE LIGHTS UP AND SIGNS FOR ONE THING, TEENS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS ROAD AS ARE THE ELDERLY AND THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE VISABILITY AND WARNINGS ABOUT THIS CURVE ! NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU ” IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS ” AS U PUT IT ! THIS IS OUR NECK OF THE WOODS ALSO AND WE HAVE LIVED HERE AS LONG AS YOU AND WE WANT OUR KIDS SAFE AND NOT INSULTED FOR BEING TEENS !

    Emily,
Some of these people have nothing better to do than get on here and find something to fuss about. Teenagers are usually the target of busybodies. Just ignore them because they were not there so they don’t know what happened. I bet a few of them did things as teenagers that they would not want known.

go emily! people who were not there and do not know what goes on shouldn’t judge and stick to what they know. the roads were really slippery that night and it was an accident so people need to quit trying to blame it on other things.

    To BamaMom,
I don’t want to start an argument over nonsense, so I will say this and end it.
Yes, I do know what goes on in that “neck of the woods” I have lived within 1 mile of this road my entire life, and my family before me. I know first hand of these activities as I have seen them myself and talked to the Game Wardens, Deputies and land owners myself. I can give you dates, times and names of people investigated and or arrested. I know first hand of the reckless driving and the poor road conditions of this road and have assisted many a motorist recover their vehicle on this road after they slid in the ditch or missed a curve. I doubt it has been your door that drunks and dope heads have been knocking on in the middle of the night wanting to be pulled out or use a phone. To me it seems you are the one blowing smoke!!

    To Local Yokel—
NO, this road does not need to be closed. The people who live on those roads depend on them being in decent repair, and their taxes reflect that!
Anyone who does not live in that area just needs to pay more attention to what they’re doing. When the final report is filed, the accident will probably be the result of (1) an inexperienced driver, (2) cell phone usage, and/or (3) the radio/CD being on.

As far as the drug activites, illegal dumping, and night hunting, you are blowing smoke and don’t have a clue what goes on in that “neck of the woods”.

This road has been a problem for YEARS!! When I say years, I mean over 30 years. I would venture that in that time there has been anywhere from 100-200 wrecks of some sort on this road, from overturns (including fatalities) to simply sliding in the ditch when it is raining. This road serves one purpose, a cut-through from Hwy 4 to Atmore for people who do not wish to drive Hwy 97. There is only one house on the Atmore end and 90% of the time the residents enter from the Atmore side nearest the pavement and the land owners of the fields have access from other roads. WHY NOT CLOSE IT!! The Sheriff’s Department and the Fish and Game have worked several criminal cases over the years on this road and the adjacent fields from people coming out of Atmore to dump trash and animals, sell drugs, night hunt and other juvenile delinquent activities. How many more wrecks does it take before someone, namely a county commissioner; steps up and looks into closing this road.

I’m so glad that no one was hurt

Kids and adults need to slow down. Isn’t this the same curve that the 3 teenagers crashed in the VW not too long ago? Everyone needs to be careful, especially if you are not familiar with the road or area. This wreck like the previous could have certainly been much much worse.

I think this is the same place where another teen overturned a car earlier this year. glad there were no serious injuries.
