McDavid Area Home Invasion Never Happened, Just A Misunderstanding

November 5, 2009

chinv10.jpg

A home invasion reported Thursday morning in the Christian Home community near McDavid never happened — authorities say it was all a misunderstanding.

A mother and deputies learned late Thursday afternoon that the person that entered a church parsonage on North Pine Barren Road while two teen females were home alone was actually a church member.

“She had been to the church to clean the food pantry and it was locked. She checked the doors around back to see about getting in and noticed my daughter’s car home and went and banged on the door and opened the door to look in and left,” the mother of one of the victims told NorthEscambia.com late Thursday afternoon.

Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that the incident was related to the church member, not a burglary or home invasion.

Below is an earlier Thursday morning NorthEscambia.com story about the incident.

Two female Jay High School seniors were alone in the home in the 3000 block of North Pine Barren Road when someone entered the home through a side door. There were no injuries, and nothing was taken from the home.

The mother of one victim said the girls had checked out of school in Jay with her permission to return to the home for shoes they had forgotten for a school pageant.

chinv11.jpgIn an exclusive interview with NorthEscambia.com, the victims said they had just arrived at the home. One was in the kitchen getting food out of a cabinet, and the other was in a bedroom looking for the shoes. That’s when they heard a repeated forceful banging at a carport door just moments after their arrival.  They ran to a bedroom and shut the door, armed with a shotgun and a knife. They heard the person or persons enter the home.

They were able to peer at a reflection on tile in a hallway to see if the suspect was approaching the bedroom, but they never saw the suspect approach. They called one of their parents on the phone, and the parent immediately  called 911 at 10:04 a.m.

“I would have shot him if he’d come close to that door,” the victim said.

The victims were not injured, and nothing was reported missing from the home. Deputies confirmed that the suspect  did enter the home’s kitchen area through the unlocked side door.

An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy responding to the call observed an older model, mud covered SUV leaving the area. Deputies were immediately put on alert to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Deputies from the Molino area spotted the SUV and stopped it in the parking lot of the Tom Thumb at Highway 97 and Highway 29. It was driven by an adult white male and occupied by a 14-year old male Northview High School student.

The student told deputies that he had checked out of school at Northview at 9:54 a.m., just moments before the incident in Christian Home. The home is located location is about three and a half miles from school.

Deputies questioned the boy and the driver, who reportedly lives in Molino. A crime scene technician processed the GMC SUV looking for anything suspicious. They were not seen removing anything from the SUV. After being fingerprinted, they were allowed to leave the Tom Thumb. They were not charged with any crime, nor were they official named as suspects in any crime.

The persons questioned by deputies at the Tom Thumb did not meet the description given by the victims in two  home invasion attacks in Molino within the last week. In both of those instances, the suspect was described as being a slender white male over six feet tall. The persons questioned at the Tom Thumb in Molino Thursday morning were not tall.

In the two Molino attacks, the suspect made contact with the victims, injuring them — one with a knife and one with broken glass. The victims in Thursday morning’s incident in Christian Home did not ever see or hear the suspect. The Molino victims are cheerleaders at Northview High School and Ernest Ward Middle School. Thursday morning’s victims attend Jay High School and are not cheerleaders. The Jay students said they do not know either of the Molino victims.

NorthEscambia.com will continue to following these developing stories and post updates as new information become available. We do not identify crime victims or their families, and we do not identify persons that have not been charged with a crime or named as a person of interest in a crime.

They were in a vehicle matching the description of one seen leaving the area of the crime by a deputy. Pictured top inset: Crime scene technicians look for evidence at the Pine Barren Road home. YES MARY, I AGREE WITH YOU! THERE IS ALOT OF PEOPLE THATS SITS AND TYPES AWAY ON THEIR COMPUTER!! BUT WHATS SO FUNNY ABOUT ALL THIS IS THE ONES THATS HAS ALOT TO SAY IS HIDING BEHIND A FALSE USER NAME. DONT YALL HAVE SOMETHING ELSE BETTER TO DO WITH YALL TIME? REMEMBER YALL ARE NOT GOD SO STOP JUDGING THESE GOOD PEOPLE!!

  3. Mary on November 7th, 2009 9:45 am

It is so easy to set here at our computers and say what we would or would not do, but we really have no idea!! I have watched TV shows where the authorites say they suspect someone of murder on the way they react. Speaking from a horrible experience I know better. My husband had a heart attach and passed away on the way to the hospital and we were in the car alone. (YES, there was an autospy done) I promise you, your mind and body goes into a different mode and after it is over you can barely remember what was said or done. In the situation of the 2 girls in McDavid, that was no ones fault-just a terrible misunderstanding. All of these people, the neighbor (trying to do a good deed) and the girls just in a hurry and being aware of the situation in Molino was scared, are good and caring people!! I just hope you never have to find out, how you would react, to a bad situation!!!

I don’t thank any one has but the blame on the one it shout be. WHAT ABOUT THE NUT WHO GOES TO SOMEONE HOME AND JUST OPENS A DOOR AND GOES IN. i don’t care who up are up should be ask first to come in. The mom is doing her best to let everyone know what happen. And for the girls all of u need to back off. everyone has lots to say but know what happen in that house and under the circumstance that did grate. for the boy and his family yes Mon i also would be peeeeeeee. just wish the Community had talked when this all happen and i could have told the girls Mother or the ECSD what i had saw about the woman coming from the church. We are a community and we will take care of each other. Just hope and pray this never comes close to your home. We are bless that it was not a brake in and the girls are safe and we all can sleep a little better. Leave this family and put the blame where it should be……..

Many children have checked out of school to run home to get something. I agree with their it is no ones business. I understand that a school will contact the parent if they check out. many school now send a message to tell you that you child was not in school that day. I also have a local job close to home I run home at lunch sone times i never lock the door. I have started to do this since all this has happen. The neighborhood tha I live in like Christan Homes you usually do not have anyone come to you door unless you know they are coming or they call first.

  6. YOUR FRIEND on November 6th, 2009 6:03 pm

it’s a fact that we are living in bad times were you can trust no one. And you have to be ready for anything, and these were. Sooner are later someone are GOD will get the right one. He willnot getaway with it and you can take that to the BANK.

  9. TAMMY REID on November 6th, 2009 12:50 pm

SO WHAT IF THEY CHECKED OUT OF SCHOOL!! HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU LOCK THE DOOR WHEN JUST GOING INTO THE HOUSE TO GET SOMETHING?? ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT THESE GIRLS WERE DOING AND WHY THEY WERE OUT OF SCHOOL AT THAT TIME. I WANT TO KNOW ALL THE PEOPLE THAT LOCKS THE DOOR WHEN THEY ARE JUST RUNNING IN TO GET SOMETHING!!! YOU KNOW YOU DON’T, SO STOP IT AND LEAVE THIS GIRL ALONE. LETS TALK ABOUT THIS PERSON THAT IS BROKEN INTO THESE HOMES AND HURT THESE OTHER GIRLS!! THATS MORE IMPORTANT!!

  10. Just a suggestion: on November 6th, 2009 12:40 pm

I’ve heard that polygraph test are not always accurate, but if it showed that the girls were telling the truth, wouldn’t it help stop them from more stress? I feel sorry for them if after going through something as scary as this, then having to deal with so many people basically calling them liars?

  11. Mom on November 6th, 2009 10:26 am

This wasn’t the cleaning lady. We are about to open the food pantry back up and she was wanting to help clean the food pantry. Our cleaning lady does have her own key. No one is normally home nor at the church during the day. The girls had not posted this on facebook nor myspace before the happening. The church member didn’t announce her identity and was banging really hard. My daughter has a really good head on her shoulders and has stayed home alone many times. She did not shoot the gun and only would have if the church member had came into the home and tried to open the bedroom door without saying anything. My daughter said, “it all happened so quick! ”
You never know how you will respond until you are faced with circumstance. So be careful what you say it may come back to you one day!! God bless everyone!

  12. Me on November 6th, 2009 8:18 am

I agree with “Get off that soapbox” The sad part is that even adults are putting their daily coming and going on facebook and myspace. I’m not saying any of these girls did that. But so many do – even adults. Haven’t you ever heard of the word “hacker”? And this cleaning lady…..close call! Most cleaning ladies have their own keys. Hmmmm…..little weird there too!!!

  13. concerned mom on November 6th, 2009 8:16 am

hey whitepunknotondope, just wait until the shoe is on theother foot and see how u feel about all of this. I never said I was gonna sue anyone, but I think that people should check things out so it’s not ECSD wasting time, and money on a “cleaning lady” knocking on the door. Why was the door unlocked? If my child is at home, whether there has been a home invasion or not, the door would be locked. That wouldve been the first thing i done after arriving home, huh?

  14. Get off that soapbox! on November 6th, 2009 7:54 am

Have you looked at facebook, my space and all other sites that these kids use? It tells you any and all personal information about them. ” I am home alone sick today”. ” My parents are working”, “I am going to bed now”. Good grief sign on and see what your kids are posting for everyone to see. Tell them how dangerous this is, especially if the intruder is someone that knowes them and where they live. Quit trying to blame it on the schools, the kids are telling all. Get involved. Be a parent.

  15. SoMoteitBe on November 6th, 2009 7:54 am

Mix-ups, false reporting, panic, paranoia, supposition, rumors, bravado are all normal when the safety of children is at stake!! When crime comes to the country we band together, shout our indignation, load and reload our guns and tell everyone how we’ll shoot anyone that sets foot on our property. News Flash!! This guy lives here!! He’s one of our home grown. He won’t be scared off by bravado, The two Molino attacks required planning, recon and execution. They required a planned way in and way out. They may also have required an accomplice (look-out). Share information, check on your neighbors and take note of anyone (I mean anyone) who doesn’t seem quite right.

  16. whitepunknotondope on November 6th, 2009 7:04 am

“MY family has been humiliated in public. MY FAMILY IS INNOCENT AND DIDNT DESERVE TO BE HUMILIATED.”

The police were doing what our taxes pay them to do. If your family is innocent, then the inconvenience your husband and son endured should be chalked up to “better safe than sorry”.

If you’re so upset about your family being “disrespected”, go hire a lawyer and sue the ECSD just like so many other morons would do.

  17. Relieved on November 6th, 2009 6:33 am

So this home invasion is unfounded and the church’s cleaning lady almost got to go see her maker. Ok folks, take a deep breath and think before you pull that trigger and like Mr. Green said, “Know your target.”

Now I wonder if the other two Molino “break-ins” could be “non-crimes” as well with the exception of false reporting. The information provided by the ‘victims’ doesn’t add up. For instance, a 13 year old is held down on her bed and cut with a knife as she is fights for her life, but somehow she manages to get the suspect off of her long enough to wrap wounded hand, open a window and escape. However, the officer documents in a report that nothing is disturbed in the bedroom. The bed is not in disarray, no blood on the covers, floor, or window where the girl opened it and got out. How does this happen? A skeptical forensic crime scene analyst would say that it didn’t in the way it’s ‘reported.’ As for the 16 year old, her superficial wounds look odd to most. Why no wounds in locations that couldn’t be self-inflicted, like on the back? A tall, 6 foot plus guy climbs through a half opened window and destroys the blinds. What about shoe prints on the ground under the window and soil transfer to the inside of the home after he climbed through? How does one go from standing upright throwing drinking glasses and spraying an assailant with pepper spray end up on the floor in balled position being ‘cut’ by him with a piece of broken glass – and then escape?

Look up in the sky, there goes “Balloon Boy” passing over Molino.

    @ JUST STATING

Jay and Northview aren’t that far away, maybe the guys involved go to jay and northview , and have some involvement with these girls.

  19. trespasbeware on November 5th, 2009 11:41 pm

This is a good example of how some innocent person could have been killed. Please be aware until these people are found there are a lot of guns that are in homes and anyone that comes around a home unannounced could be shot. Everyone should be careful in this day and time and protect your families the best way you can.

  20. caryon on November 5th, 2009 10:07 pm

@ family, no I still fill the same & even more so. The Mom of the jay girl said on here it was not an intruder but neighbor, & the News says the same. Just goes to show the panic it has understandably caused. Like I said, someone id going to end up seriously hurt I fear.

  21. member of the community on November 5th, 2009 8:32 pm

I am just glad no one was hurt, the girls did a great job and the “cleaning lady” was not shot! People need to realize that the girls was not expecting anyone to come banging on the door to just open it, and remember there was a home invasion just a few days ago, so I don’t blame the girls for not opening the door for just anyone! They felt danger and they took actions into there own hands, just as they was taught!

Thank you Lord Jesus for your Holy Protection!

  22. mystery on November 5th, 2009 7:43 pm

I do not understand why people close to a sensitive issue would enter into a public forum to express their sympathy, concerns, support etc. And attack anyone who may disagree, or have ligitimate concerns on a issue. Anyone in a public forum that could actually say “Mind your own business” is ludacris. Just telling someone this- you are in their business. It was their personal opinion, you read it right? Anything going on in a community is everyones business. I, for one, would never express my sympathy, concerns, nor support to anyone I am close to in a public forum… Pick up the phone and call them, send a card, email them. What mom always said…”If you cant stand the heat–stay out of the kitchen”

  23. shellcracker on November 5th, 2009 7:33 pm

  26. concerned mom on November 5th, 2009 7:08 pm

So 3 people were pulled over, questioned for over 2 hrs because a “cleaning lady” knocked on the door? My son, husband and brother-in-law were the ones that were “questioned” about this so-called crime. I think the ESCO should have more evidence, and cause to detain someone for 2 hrs. Why didnt the girls just go check to see who it was? Everytime someone knocks on the door are we all suposed to go and hide? Polite people knock on the door. I am very upset about all of this. MY family has been humiliated in public. MY FAMILY IS INNOCENT AND DIDNT DESERVE TO BE HUMILIATED.

  27. David Huie Green on November 5th, 2009 6:14 pm

    REGARDING:
“I’m not gonna get stupid pepper spray. I would rather get a GUN. and do something about it. They should have taught the 16 year old how to use one!!!”

How people choose to defend themselves is their matter, their decision, they are the ones who have to live with the consequences of their choices. If you shoot the cleaning lady, who’s going to clean up the mess? If you don’t shoot the mad killer, you’re in a mess. Being able to disable an attacker without risking killing a friend is a good thing. No reason to verbally attack somebody else’s decision. Make your own for yourself.

David for never shooting without knowing your target

  28. curious on November 5th, 2009 6:06 pm

OK ECSO are you listening…A church cleaning lady comes within feet of being shot by a panicked teenager. A innocent father and his 14 year old son are humiliated and fingerprinted in public. What next.. I pray some innocent person does not lose their life before this is resolved. I have advised my loved ones to stay clear of this part of the county. I am sure the ECSO is working hard to resolve this and I am sure they have a good idea of the person/persons involved. I am sure they want to make absolute sure before they make the arrest, lets home it comes soon.

  29. noh8rs on November 5th, 2009 5:41 pm

SEE HOW EASILY AN INNOCENT PERSON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED? AND TWO GIRLS LIVES WOULD HAVE CHANGED HAD THEY TOOK ACTION.

ECSO NEEDS TO STEP UP, GET YOUR CYBERCRIME UNIT INTO ACTION AND PUT A STOP TO THIS COMMUNITY PANIC BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT.

USE YOUR GOOD OLD INTUITION AND DETECTIVE SKILLS AND START HOLDING PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE.

  30. BLESSED on November 5th, 2009 5:40 pm

This is just too scary.. and it seems to me that these attacks could very well be related just with the way they happend. (Just a thought) It may be possible that when the teens got out of school to go home, they may have put it on their myspace or facebook or twitter status’ and that may be the reason the intruder knew they were home!? That may not be the case, but anything is possible in this on-going investigation. Be careful what you post on the internet and who you tell your business to, there are way too many idiots out there looking for something to get into. I’m glad no one has been seriously injured. We have the right to bare arms, so don’t think I won’t protect myself and my family.

  31. :) on November 5th, 2009 5:39 pm

“MOM” Thanks for giving details…that’s what we love. That way we don’t have to read all those comments about people guessing what happened. You should be very proud that the kids handled things the way they did. You never know how you will handle things until you are standing there scared for your life!

  32. Caryon on November 5th, 2009 5:32 pm

I do not see that this is any thing like the first too reports. This sounds like a copy cat trying to scare two girls he knew had left school, or seen going in the home beings he had just checked out and it was just down the road. If they wanted to do more than scare them they would have. I would think the finger printing would be to check for prints back at the house and compare to any found at the homes of the two Molino Girls, if any other than the families are found there.

  33. :) on November 5th, 2009 5:27 pm

Okay, so this wasn’t another incident. I’m relieved, but those guys are still out there. It’s refreshing to know everyone is on their toes though. Everyone keep praying that the truth be known .

  34. Mom on November 5th, 2009 5:20 pm

The girls were home for just a few minutes. They had forgotten some shoes. They entered the home and went to back bedroom. One in the closet and the other in the doorway. The one in the doorway heard a loud banging noise on the door and the dog going crazy. She told the other girl and they started down the hallway not inview of the door. They continued to hear the banging and about halfway down the hallway the noise stopped and the girls heard the door open. They ran into another bedroom where there was a loaded gun and a knife. We had gotten prepared because of the home invasions we had heard about, never dreaming they would have to use them. One girl called me,her mom, and I called 911.The deputies arrived in approx. 6minutes, for that we are very thankful!! We talked to several neighbors and about 3:00pm one neighbor had called another to share what she had seen. She saw another neighbor coming from the direction of the home. The lady she saw is a friend of the family and had walked down there and seen the girls were home. She knocked on the door and opened it. That is when the girls took off! I am very proud of their response. They didn’t panic. Even though they didn’t think to call 911 they knew mama would take care of them. I am very thankful that this wasn’t an invasion but a mere mix-up. I think it will cause our community to be more aware and cause us all to come together and look out for each other. You can never be too prepared!! God bless all that helped!!!!

  35. Hollywood calling!! on November 5th, 2009 5:13 pm

It still smells like day old fish. Could it be that this little group of “Face bookers/my spacers” are expanding and trying to make the first attacks look more legitimate by entering homes in other areas and kids from other schools that they know? Don’t underestimate the devious minds of the youth of today.

Word of advise for any traveling sales persons in the area…

Better move on up the road to sell your vaccuum cleaners. Say, Panama City or maybe Tallahassee. If you do insist on canvassing this area, you may want to invest in a bulletproof vest, especially if you are between 6′ 2″ and 6′ 4″ tall….

  43. Freedom on November 5th, 2009 3:51 pm

    Around here
You’re right. I posted my school theory before they updated this story with the specifics. If these instances were all related, the intruder/intruders would have to have accomplices from different schools. Maybe the home invasion today isn’t related to the others. Maybe it’s a copycat! I guess we’ll have to wait for the detectives to figure it all out. I just hope this was the last one, and nobody else is harmed.

  44. noh8rs on November 5th, 2009 3:44 pm

    What happened to “EMERGENCY 911″?

Why would anyone call anything but 911?

I know that “all parents” teach their kids at a very young age how to dial 911.

Why call parents first? By the time you call someone else and they call 911, the police would have already been at your house.

  45. bleh on November 5th, 2009 3:23 pm

Once again, the girls checked out of jay school and just so happen to be at “home” when the attacks occurred, meaning the person knew they were not at school, and knew no one else would be at their home other than the girl.

Its clearly information coming from inside the school, someone that goes to that school, or works for that school.

The 2 incidents may not be related, but a nut like that probably doesn’t care where their from. Someone had made a statement a few days earlier that they don’t see how girls could have gotten away that easy. Just a note. The information on PNJ.com is no where as extensive at what it on here. I love that I can come to this website and find out about what’s going on in our end of the county! Thanks!

It’s time to keep those guns handy, if you don’t like guns put up a sign saying so. That way he will know where to go and no get hurt. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt really bad or killed. Someone out there knows this person, give him up before it’s to late.
