Schools Get $2.1 Million Award Money, Most Will Be Employee Bonuses
October 2, 2009
Almost $2.1 million in bonus money from the state will be divided between 39 school in Escambia County — including $363,531 to North Escambia schools
Florida School Recognition Awards, funded by lottery proceeds, are essentially performance bonuses. The awards provide cash to schools that either maintain their “A” school letter grade from the state, or to schools that improve on significant year by year basis.
Each schools gets to decide how to use the reward monies. Most use the money for bonus checks for teachers and staff members. The amount of the reward dollars received by each school is based upon the number of students in that school.
The following North Escambia schools received the bonus awards:
Bratt Elementary — $29,496
Byrneville Elementary — $12,510
Jim Allen Elementary — $44,297
Ernest Ward Middle — $34,613
Ransom Middle — $99,436
Tate High — $143,179

Way to go KEE!
Hey School Mom….. Your bonus is the satisfaction of spending time with your child and helping him/her be their best. Your bonus comes from the happy smiles on their faces when they make good grades and understand their study material. Your bonus comes (hopefully) in a few years when they get their academic scholarships to go off to the university of their choice. That is all worth more than money!
Teachers don’t do it alone but yet they are the ones who get rewarded.
Molino Park doesn’t get any of the money because they slipped to a “B” school.
Responding to “i ball hard”
The schools are getting the money for having an ‘A.’ Nobody is just handing it out to them. So if Northview needs/wants money so bad then they should make an ‘A.’ It’s that simple.
Where is the bonus for all the parents that were teaching their child at home with the excessive homework that was given to make this happen?
This is wrong, they get an hourly wage, why benefit from a child success.
What about Molino Park? They have always been a great school and the teachers there do a great job!
thats their job to teach what about bus drivers ,custodian workers , and so on the people that makes every thang happen what would happen if schools did get clean and bus didt roll every morning
yeah give all the money to the school besides northview. northview needs it the most. but they get the short end of the stick again
sometimes the students should get paid to have to put up with these teachers
Congratulations to all of the schools receiving this money!
The only question I have is about Bright Futures. We, the recipients, have had the scholarships that were promised to us (based on our performance) decreased beginning this semester. The claim is that the state simply doesn’t have the money to cover the scholarships in full. But–Bright Futures is funded by the lottery. So where is this $2.1 million coming from if there is no money? Why wouldn’t it have gone to the people to which it had already been promised?
Not to put a damper on this article, because..really..great job improving the school grades. I just thought other people might know where I’m coming from…or if someone knows if there is a different “pool” that this money came from?
Lets hope the money is split between all employees. We are all part of the team and should get some of the pie. Food service worker, Bus drivers, Mechanics, Building Maint. and the Grounds keepers are all part of the team and should be recognized too.
If this is too hard then the money should go to bring the workers closer together and make a team. Lets have a cook out for all the employees that serve each school.
Together we stand, devided we fall
