Northview Homecoming: All You Need To Know

It will be a big day in Bratt with the 2009 Homecoming at Northview High School

The day’s events will begin with a homecoming parade at 12:30 from Bratt Elementary to Northview. Click here  for complete parade information.

The Northview Homecoming Court will be presented at 6 p.m., followed the crowning of the NHS Homecoming Queen.

The game against Baker will kick off at 7:00 p.m.

During the game, all Northview High School alumni from 1996-2009 are invited to visit an alumni tent located in the stadium.

After the game, the NHS cheerleaders are sponsoring a homecoming dance until 12:30 a.m.

Then on Saturday, NorthEscambia.com will have complete coverage — including hundreds of photos — from the parade, homecoming court and the game.

Schools Get $2.1 Million Award Money, Most Will Be Employee Bonuses

Almost $2.1 million in bonus money from the state will be divided between 39 school in Escambia County — including $363,531 to North Escambia schools

schoolmoney.jpgFlorida School Recognition Awards, funded by lottery proceeds, are essentially performance bonuses. The awards provide cash to schools that either maintain their “A” school letter grade from the state, or to schools that improve on significant year by year basis.

Each schools gets to decide how to use the reward monies. Most use the money for bonus checks for teachers and staff members. The amount of the reward dollars received by each school is based upon the number of students in that school.

The following North Escambia schools received the bonus awards:

Bratt Elementary — $29,496
Byrneville Elementary — $12,510
Jim Allen Elementary — $44,297
Ernest Ward Middle — $34,613
Ransom Middle — $99,436
Tate High — $143,179

Northview JV Chiefs Beat Baker Gators 32-12

The Northview High School Junior Varsity Chiefs rolled over the Baker Gators Thursday evening 32-12.

A 20-yard Jacob Gibson run with 3:27 on the clock in the first put the Chiefs at first and goal.  Four seconds of play later, Gibson was in the end zone to the put Chiefs up 6-0. The JV Chiefs went for two and missed.

nhs-jv-baker-39.jpgThen sophomore Jamie Gafford scored for NHS on a 42-yard run. Another missed point after, and the Chiefs ended the first quarter up 12-0. The Gators answered with a half dozen of their own, sending the game into halftime with the score of 12-6.

Harold Harrison returned the second quarter kickoff about 70 yards. A good kick, and the Chiefs were on top 19-6 with 7:47 in the third.

A 20-yard pass with 1:30 in the quarter scored again for the Gators. Tyler Hester intercepted a two point attempt pass, and Northview was still leading 19-12.

Reid Bell had a 28-yard dash with 3:52 remaining to put the Chiefs up 25-12. Tyler Hester returned an interception 17[yards for Northview with 3:38 to go, for the final — 32-12 Northview Chiefs over the Baker Gators.

The Northview JV team will be in action again Monday night on the road against W.S. Neal. There final home game will be October 12 against West Florida Tech.

Bratt Elementary Honors Partners In Education

Bratt Elementary School honored their Partners In Education Thursday morning with a play.

“Bratt thanks you for giving us so much”, the fourth grade students sang to the partners. “We are glad to have a friend like you; we are partners through and through.”

bratt-partners-34.jpgBratt’s Partners in Education are Escambia River Electric Cooperative, the First Baptist Church of Bratt, Bondurant of Century and the Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

“The partners have always been there for us,” Bratt Principal Cheryl Pomeroy said. Partners in education provide monetary support, incentives and support to assist the school in creating a quality learning environment.

Ernest Ward Students Checked Out For Parade Will Be Excused

All students checked out from Ernest Ward Middle School for today’s Northview Homecoming Parade will be excused.

Principal Nancy Gindl-Perry said students should be checked out after 11:30 if at all possible. They will not be required to return to school, and they will be excused, she said.  Teachers should not be giving any tests or graded assignments, and, if they do, students will have the opportunity to make them up on Monday.

A photo identification is necessary to check a student out at Ernest Ward, and the parent or guardian must be listed as authorized to checkout the student with the school.

Over 350 To Participate In Northview’s First Homecoming Parade Today

The first Northview High School Homecoming Parade at 12:30 afternoon in Bratt will feature about 35 units and over 300 students on a route from Bratt Elementary School to Northview.

The parade will be led by Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan and Escambia County Commissioner Kevin White, followed by the Northview High School Tribal Beat band.

There are floats scheduled to be in the parade from the seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen, art class, volleyball team, NHS alumuni and the “Senior II” float. The Northview Varsity and Junior Varsity footballs teams will be in the parade, along with cheerleaders from Northview and Ernest Ward Middle School.  Mascot Raylin Spence will be riding in the parade.

Century Mayor Freddie McCall and Carl Ward will be in their vintage cars, and Bratt’s unofficial mayor,  Donnie Bass, will also make an appearance.

Fire trucks from Walnut Hill, Century, McDavid, Molino and Poarch will also be in the parade. The Northview NJROTC platoon, NJROTC Color Guard,  DCT, FBLA, FFA and SGA will also take part.

WEAR-TV 3 personality Mollye Barrows is scheduled to ride in the parade in the station’s satellite truck.

An estimated 275 Northview students will take part in today’s parade.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to claim the best spots along Highway 4.

Barrineau Park Music Night Tonight

There’s some good entertainment on stage tonight in Barrineau Park — and it’s free.

The monthly Barrineau Park Music Night will be tonight at the Barrineau Park Community Center. The featured groups tonight are “Southern Sounds” and “Harold & Ovaline”.

The singing starts at 7 p.m. and is free. Food and refreshments will also be available beginning at 6 p.m.

The event is family-friendly — no alcohol is permitted on the property, and no smoking is allowed in or near the building.

Ernest Ward Eagles Fall To W.S. Neal In Middle School Football

The Ernest Ward Middle School Golden Eagles fell to the Eagles of W.S. Neal Thursday evening, 52-28.

The Eagles and the Eagles were even going into the second quarter after a scoreless first period.

W.S. Neal was first up on the scoreboard with a 37 yard run with 6:30 to go in the second. With a good point conversion, Neal was up 8-0.

ewms-wsneal-063.jpgDalton Daniel had the first Eagle touchdown of the night with 4:14 in second quarter,. A missed point after, and Neal was ahead 8-6.  A 57-yard run from Cameron Newsome put Ernest Ward on top 12-8 after a miss two point attempt.

WS Neal scored another touchdown with 2:04 in second quarter on a 64 yard run. The two point conversion was good; 16-12 Neal in lead again.

With only 1:12 left in 2nd quarter, WS Neal ran 35 yards for another touchdown. With a good two point conversion, Neal was now up 24-12.

Top of 3rd quarter sees WS Neal run 55 yards for a TD and 2-point conversion bringing the score to 32-12 Neal

Then Tristan Montgomery was in for an Ernest Ward Eagle touchdown. A good two point conversion from EWMS cut Neal’s lead to 32-20 with 4:46 remaining in the third.

WS Neal answered with another TD at 3:35 in the 3rd. This time, they missed the point after, for a 38-20 Neal lead.

With 1:06 to go in the 3rd, WS Neal scored again with a good two-point conversion, bringing the score to 46-20 at the end of the third.

In the fourth quarter, Tristan Montgomery ran 80 yards to score for the EW Eagles at 2:35; With a good 2-point conversion, Neal’s lead was cut to 46-28.

Neal added one more with 2:24 to go in the fourth. Neal missed the point after to win 52-28.

Ernest Ward will be home Tuesday evening against Uriah.

NHS Parade To Close Highway 4

Friday’s Northview High School Homecoming Parade will close a section of Highway 4 in Bratt.

Highway 4 from Highway 99 to Pine Barren Road  — from Bratt Elementary School to Northview — will be closed from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.

It is possible to detour around the area using North Highway 99 to Oakshade Road to Pine Barren Road. This route would be unable for the brief time after 12:30 that the parade passes through the Bratt Crossroads.
