Business Owner Shot During Attempted Robbery In Atmore

October 27, 2009

The Atmore Police Department is investigating the attempted robbery and shooting of a business owner that occurred Monday night.

Atmore Police  responded to a call of shots being fired about 8:45 p.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Avenue and Park Drive. Responding officers were just a few blocks away and unable to find any suspicious activity, according to Glenn Carlee, director of public safety.

“Upon further patrol of the area a motorist made contact with officers stating that he had been shot during an attempted robbery and was enroute to the hospital for treatment,” he said. The victim told Police that while he was closing his business the Game Room, which is located at Park Drive and Martin Luther King Avenue, several black males approached him and attempted to rob him.

“The victim indicated to one of the suspects that he knew him and at that point the gunman fired two rounds from his weapon striking the victim in the chest and arm,” Carlee said. The victim was transported to Atmore Community Hospital where he was kept overnight for observation.

Tracking dogs from Fountain Prison were called to assist in the search for the suspects.

Atmore Police said they have persons of interest in the case, but they continue to ask anyone with any information about this crime to call the department at (251) 368-9141.

I hope Mr. McMurray is recovering fine. The store has been in the neighborhood for quite sometime. He is a nice man. My daughter is 18 years old and she still enjoy going to the store. She stated that she can’t understand why anyone would do that to him. She stated that he will give you anything. To those who want to steal, kill, and hurt people for what you want. GET A JOB! Stop being LAZY,SORRY, and NO GOOD get up, pull your pants up and get a job. Be a husband, father, uncle, a leader in the community. Do something that will have a positive affect in your community in your home. It’s time out for ALL foolishness.

i said on a story about 2-*3 weeks ago how bad Atmore has gotten and a person stated that it wasnt that bad and if so why not move, crime has gotten serious in Lil oH Atmore,he probaly knew the person face and not his name. This man is good man and good with the kids.Alot of kids and some adults go there to shoot pool. Its sad when you have young kids doing these kind of things.I pray that he heals soon and that who ever did this pays the price for thier crime.Glad he they didnt kill him but the sad part is what if he would have hurt them.No one will tell on suspects, but if he had hurt-killed one of them, most people would have blame the victim.Something needs to be done it these kids and some of the parents of these kids.Im not stating all parents are to blame but most of them know what they kids are doing or have done and thats why they keep getting away with it.Hopefully if these are kids they will be tried as an Adult so that the system want just give them a slap on the wrist.

If the victim knew the suspect…don’t look for people “of interest”…ask the dude who shot him and then go look for him?!?!
