Foul Play Not Suspected In Death Of Man Found In Park
October 26, 2009
Authorities say foul play is not currently suspected in the death of a man found inside a pickup truck at Showalter Park in Century Sunday afternoon.
A person walking their dog discovered the man inside a Chevrolet pickup that was parked between a ball field and railroad tracks at the back of the park, near a cemetery.
Sheriff’s Office investigators and crime scene technicians were unable find any signs of foul play related to the death of the 61-year old white male, according to Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Workman. He said an autopsy would be performed to confirm if the death was indeed natural.
Workman said it appeared the man had been dead up to about two hours before his body was discovered.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at 4:39 p.m. The man was pronounced dead by Escambia County EMS at 4:47 p.m.

Mrs. Dorothy Sims and Mrs. Kathy Bush,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and God Bless his children. Mr. Rickey was one of the most pleasant men to be around.
Ricky has four children…………
I had the great pleasure of growing up with Ricky. Even when we were kids he enjoyed making people laugh. Putting a smile on a person’s face was something he seem to enjoy very much as a young boy, something he never got tired of doing or grew out of.
this is a very sad day. Mr. Croley was a very nice man that always had something nice and funny to say. i know both of his children and my hearts go out to both of them.
I know that Ricky will be missed dearly by all that loved and knew him. He was such a nice man. I remember him sitting in driskell’s in the mornings. He was always talking to you and would make you leave that store with a smile on your face! My heart goes out to his family and close friends.
Mr.Rickey was good Christian man,my wife and I enjoy him everytime we spoke to him.In laughter he always told us ya’ll be careful on those and don’t go flying.LOL.We will always remember him in good times. Our Prayers Go Out To The Family.
me — Since this was a natural death, we will not identify the gentleman per our policies.
What was the mans name???
The family is in my prayers. Ricky was one of the best…..the man loved to laugh and make others laugh with him. He was a dear life long friend.
We love you Rickey, and will always think of you when were riding. Rickey on his Honda Goldwing while we rode our Harley’s . He was a resident of Century for most of his life. We wish we could have gotten to know him longer. Such an inspiration and a lot to be learned from Rickey. Our heart goes out to the family and especially the grandchildren, we know how much they loved him too. BFA
MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY. I KNOW THAT MR. RICKY WAS A GOOD MAN, FATHER, UNCLE, SON, BUT MOST OF ALL GRANDFATHER!! HE LOVE HIS FAMILY AND HE SHOWED IT. MAY GOD BE WITH YALL.
RIP Uncle Rickey……we love you and you will be dearly missed
My prayers go out to the family.
Thank you posting this. The talk around town last night that someone had been murdered. It’s really sad this happened to that man, but it is reassuring to the entire community that a murder did not happen in our park.
I live less than a block from this. I am speechless!
