Santa Rosa To Pay ACLU $200,000 In Prayer Suit

September 24, 2009

The ACLU will get almost $200,000 in legal fees from Santa Rosa County  in the Pace High School school prayer lawsuit.

The ACLU had said the district owned the group $400,000, but that number was cut in half during mediation hearings. The district is obligated to pay the legal fees after settling a lawsuit back in January.

The lawsuit was filed last August on behalf of two Pace High School students that claimed school officials promoted prayer and religion at the school. As part of the settlement, the school district admitted liability.

The Santa Rosa County School District’s liability insurance will pay the ACLU’s legal fees.

i agree that it was a waste of money and time to even bring all of this up in the first place. This is why i have fear each day i send my children to school. God has been taken out of everything, from schools, to the judicial system all the way up to the United States itself. This country is falling apart because of ppl like the ones who complained about this prayer in the first place. Furthermore, where are the parents of these kids in all of this. what ever happened to a parent being a parent and the child being the child. if my child tried to cause this much trouble over something so minute, he/she would have trouble of their own.

I always thought that the majority ruled. But undoubtly doesn”t. Two students causing all this. GOD is still God and always will be. When we take prayer out of the schools, we might as well be praying, ‘Come quickly LORD JESUS” This country was founded on GODS word,.

You can bet if Pace teachers were leading prayers for anything other than Jesus or God, you would all be praising the ACLU for a job well done, Am I right?

A bit one sided are we?

It’s like you can hear the ACLU saying, “Nanny nanny boo boo, I got you back!”

bleh.ditto the truth it doesn’t matter!!!!! My God where were you people when the separation of church and state law was put into effect? Frank Lay broke the law plain and simple. If you want your children to be able to express their religious beliefs at school put them in a Christian School and stop whining. In the mean time look this stuff up…….It is against the law to express religious views in public schools.(PRAY) The around the pole thing is an excellent thing for children to be able to share their beliefs with each other but the school employees can not be involved.

Actually the ACLU won. The contempt charges brought against the principal and coach were brought by the judge for violating the court order from the lawsuit the ACLU won. If you don’t want to pay the ACLU money make sure your school personal is not leading the students in prayer. What the school was doing wrong is well established in law and the school will loose every time. Just stop doing it.

the school boards insurance company should fight this ridiculously frivolous lawsuit on pure principle….it sounds as if they settled……yet, ANOTHER outrageous legal manuver from this BUTTINSKIE, anti-American group AKA ACLU…..once again…..decent, law abiding Americans, who believe in our constitution should be paying MUCH attention to the subtle changes that our country is currently evolving/changing in to…thank you for the links EMD….this is scary!!

This is good news! Separation of church and state! You guys might not like it, but what if they were reciting muslim prayers in school? you wouldn’t like that would you? Thats why we have separation of church and state, pace is a public school, not a private religious school. If you want prayer in school, send your kids to a private religious school, or let them pray to themselves at public school.

Who were the students? Are they the type of people that like starting trouble. I for one would like to know.

This is so sickening! While school boards in our nation are forced to work with slashed budgets during these harsh economic times, they have to deal with this also? How crazy! Tax dollars are being flushed while teacher positions are cut, schools are closed and parents provide long lists of school supplies because teachers haven’t been given the funds they need for their classes. Though the district’s liability insurance will pick up the costs of this, it is totally unnecessary and a waste of money!

    Harvey…..ACLU is ANTI-CHRIST LIBERALS UNION!

If I believed in something as strong as these two individuals did to get this crap started…..I would not be a COWARD and hide behind no one or anything. It just goes to show all of us what kind of idiots are out there. All I can say is if you don’t like the community you are living in LEAVE! There is such a thing as FREDDOM OF RELIGION no matter what background you are from and I know that NO ONE will take that from this community.

If you are tired of what the ACLU is doing, join the LIBERTY COUNCIL and help fight for our rights has christians.

The two student that filed the suite are the ones who started this. They should pay the fee. If I hired a Lawyer I would have to pay their bill. Wherther I won or lost the case. The Schools have enough to pay without having to pay for this.

Tigger, I think this article refers to an earlier case, (not the one involving the principal and the athletic director), I wonder if we can turn around and sue the ACLU on this last one though, since the two men were found not guilty.

Can someone explain to me why the school has to pay the ACLU a dime? The ACLU sued the and LOST. The ACLU should not get a dime.
