Robbery Suspect Arrested For Tire Thefts Was Due In Court At Same Time

During the 9:00 hour Monday that a Century man was being arrested for allegedly stealing tires, he was actually due to be in an Escambia County courtroom on a concealed weapons charge.

ewingantonio.jpgAntonio Demetrius Ewing, 19, of West Highway 4, Century, was charged with burglary, escape and larceny in connection with the tire incident Monday morning on Alger Road in Century.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Ewing trying to fit tires onto a Pontiac Firebird with no tag in the parking lot of the Gospel Light Temple on Alger Road in Century about 9:20 Monday morning. The Firebird — the alleged getaway car from the robbery of the Tom Thumb in Molino at 6:10 a.m. — had a flat tire. Deputies said Ewing had taken the tires and tools from a nearby shed, and he was trying to fit tires onto the Firebird — including tires that had no rims.

tomthumb31.jpgEscambia County court records show that Ewing was arrested February 15 and charged with carrying a concealed weapon. He was released the next day on $2,500 bond. He pleaded not guilty about a month later. He was back in court on July 2, and he was due back Monday morning at 9:00 for a jury trial on the concealed weapons charge.

Because he did not appear in court Monday, a felony warrant for Ewing’s arrest was issued by Judge Frank Bell.

Ewing is facing the escape charge after he ran as deputies were walking him out of the Century Precinct to place him a cruiser to take him to jail. Deputies said Ewing ran across Highway 29 toward Century Woods Apartments where he lives. After a brief foot chase, Ewing was taken back into custody.

Deputies have named Ewing as one of two suspects in the Monday robbery of the Tom Thumb in Molino.

People always point the figure and dont know the root of a persons life.Sometimes people have a ruff childhood or adult life and cannot deal with it…Im not saying that its right to kill or steal from people bc of that but we make our own descions in life and have to deal with them.Parents cant be judge for everything thier kids do if so every parent would be in JAIL!!

This young man lost his mother at a ealry age. He was left in the hands of an aunt that was no much older than he is to raise and care for him. I do agree life is about decisions and we can only teach right from wrong, we guarantee it will be acted upon. By the way I “saw” my mom do a lot of things wrong things in life that I have not lifted a finger to do.

Again, majority of parents do just that.I come from a very strict decent, respectful, hardworking family but i have made some mistakes also.No nothing like this kid has done but i have went against what my mother and father told me.At the time they were considered little things until i had kids and now i consider them Big things.I was raised that you dont lie,you dont steal, you dont gossip, you dont hate and i have done it all.I have seen drug addict kids show people the upmost respect and i have seen rich kids kill and steal and vise versa. The facts are we can tell and show kids and grown folks the right way all day and all night long but they still are going to do what they want to do and that should not fall back on the parents unless they told them to do it. I am a mother of 2 adn i teach my kids the right way of life but they may not abide by what i have taught them every day of thier life.So does that make me a bad parent or does that mean i didnt teach them the right things to do?

You missed the point of the comment I left. Teach your children respect for others and they will grow up into a good and decent citizen.

This has nothing to do with how you raise your kids.I have seen kids that parents are very strict and they have done the same thing or worst.Everyone wants to look at that parents, how about looking at yourself and they things that you have done wrong.Whether they are small things or big things it was still wrong and your parent did not raise you to be that way.Im sure the people of this post have lied.Did your parents raise you to lie?Im sure some of us have stolen something in life, whether you were a kid or grown.Did your parents raise you to steal? Most people do things because they get with the wrong crowd or basically it is something they just want to do and think they can never be caught. At this young man age he had a mine of his own and he did what he wanted to do.

This is another example of parents raising their children and not teaching them respect. I understand that children, once they are grown, have their own responsibilty to themselves.
However, if the parents do not teach them well, this is how they turn out.
