okay I have something to say….. and I am not afraid to use my name! Someday you are all going to feel pretty silly when you realize all of this didn’t matter!! All the bickering and bad-mouthing against someone doing thier job, the best that they can …. is so unfair!! I was on PTA, I was an Officer and Parent!! And I am very grateful I got to be with my kids at thier school helping in any way that I could!!! It shouldn’t matter “WHO” you think is running the show… you should just be thankful that our children are getting the best eduacation and encouragment that they can!!!!! Support our Teachers,Principal and fellow Parents!!! and Let’s not sweat the small stuff!! Just be there for your kids and cherish those younger years!! Before you know it they will be graduating College!!!!!

The bus that carried the children and parents was a down town idea. Many of the parents that are on the P.T.A at Bratt work full time jobs and take their days off to work at Bratt. I believe one of the members had a ice crean for all the children last year out of her on pocket. I was a member of Bratt P.T.A. 20 years ago. A room mother for 12 years. Many times I would be the only parent at the party. Partys can go on with one or two parents . Times has changed in the last 30 years safety is a issue. The children still have great partys. The school has a hour or so for the party. I thank God every day that POMEROY stayed at BRATT this year. I believe she could have retired. She stayed to help with the changes that have taken place at Bratt. I understand that the school is doin great. I did not read a thing about BRATT being a A school for all these years, NO one is mad about this. Remember whem BRATT was to be closed several years ago. Who was the people that was their at ever school board meeting P.T.A. parents and Bratt teachers and support staff. Come together now as we diid then lets make BRATT Ele. even greater.

I think the post from “Hello” is a response to that point.

  4. Bratt Parent on September 12th, 2009 10:44 pm

What it meant was for all of you who say you have not seen a ballot, if you are on the PTA you would see one if you came to the meetings!!!!!!!

  5. ? on September 12th, 2009 8:29 pm

“So called parents?” So does that mean you have to come to a PTA meeting in order to be a parent?

  6. Just So You Know on September 12th, 2009 8:27 pm

    William Purdue,
I don’t recall much in these comments being anything about a busy evening. I get the idea from these posts that these parents have several years’ experience at Bratt. It also sounds to me like some of them have tried to show up and be positive but were shot down. Just so you know, I still show up and I am still positive for the childrens’ and the teachers’ sake. I am a part, I am a room mother but parents aren’t allowed to prepare lessons. I do whatever a teacher may need me to do whenever I can. Even though for the first few years I was at Bratt, I was made to feel like I was not wanted, did not belong, and was not worthy to shine Pomeroy’s (then Cox) shoes. Now I just ignore her.

  7. Hello on September 12th, 2009 8:11 pm

    Bratt Parent,
If we aren’t PTA members, which most of us have said we aren’t, why would we come to a meeting? Only members are allowed to vote. The ballots have always been, until the past couple years, sent home with all students for nominations. Then the nominations were voted on at the next meeting.

  8. Bratt Parent on September 12th, 2009 4:18 pm

By the way if some of you so called parents actually came to the PTA meetings you might see a ballot

Have you boys and girls ever heard the phrase, “To get a friend, you have to be a friend?” It’s all new to all of us.
Don’t like it? Ask for meeting to change the way it’s done. Show up! Be positive! It’s a new day! Talk with OUR Principal. She’s all about our kids. And she is all about having the best for our school. She’s really nice. Smile
We do not know our new parents talents. We don’t know their interest. Show us you want to be a part. Go Be a part. Maybe you can be a room mom who help straightens at the end of a day. jA mom that tutors a child. A mom who helps with bulleton boards. A mom who helps prepare lessons. A ,mom who sits with students who need one on one attention. If you want to help there is a way to get involved. Write a letter to the Principal and your students teacher(s). Tell them .you would like to help in some way.
    lain
Please just don’t sit , talk, compare and complain. DO SOMETHING.
    \wE DO NEED, CAN USE, AND WILL USE ALL WHO CARE TO LET THE SCHOOL KNOW. TRY US;
oNE BUSY EVENING JUST SHOULD NOT BE A SET OPINION. BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO SEE FOR YOURSELF AND NOT TAKE ANYONES WORD. GO SEE.

Wow! I am not even believing all that I am reading! I have been a Bratt Mom for years and have never felt that Bratt or PTA is “clique-ish” or run totally by the principal. I think we should concentrate on working with and for our children and setting a good example for them. Vent if you must but keep priorities in order.

I don’t recall comments being closed because they were bashing Mrs. Weaver or Mrs. Perry. I seem to remember when the new football coach for Northview was chosen, there were some who were unhappy with the selection process and there were negative things said about Mrs. Weaver and the comments weren’t closed then. I hate it for you, the other Bratt Parent, but PTA is controlled by Pomeroy. I don’t care who you are or who you think you are, but she runs the show. Just ask her. If you are an officer on PTA, whether you want to admit it or not, she decides what is done, when it is done, how it is done, etc. You can’t tell me that Pomeroy isn’t the one who has decided how PTA’s money would be spent since the playground was built. I still haven’t figured out why there was a fund raiser done this year when PTA has plenty of money in the bank.
I thought Open House was great, too. The only thing that has been said about Open House was that the turn out seemed to be small. Although I did not notice it last night, Bratt Mom is right. It’s usually shoulder to shoulder trying to walk down the hall but that wasn’t the case last night. Nobody said they didn’t like the school. In fact, I believe I said I love our school.

  12. Left Out Parent on September 11th, 2009 4:38 pm

Just looking in, you are correct it is a “click thing”! If you’re not in the “click” you can hang it up! They only want certain parents at the school. I think it’s very unfair that if you’re not a room mom you can’t participate any of the parties. That’s ridiculous you can’t help if you’re not a room mom. It’s not fair to the children either. Not only did they bus Century over last night they also bus the football players from Northview to Century from practice and during the summer bused them to and from practice and the Escambia County School District has no money to do things that needs to be done. They don’t bus the Molino children or Walnut Hill children, so why should they bus Century?

  13. bratt parent on September 11th, 2009 4:17 pm

Looks to me like the PTA is on topic because the PTA is mentioned in the story above. I don’t see a lot of bashing going on, just people speaking the truth.

BTW — when is that last time the school let the PTA members vote on the officers? They just get named. I can’t find anyone that has seen a ballot since Sandy Brown was president. It was under Sandy that the PTA bought the playround, and they were fought every step of the way by the adminstration.

  14. Bratt Parent on September 11th, 2009 4:02 pm

Oh my gosh, you guys are ridiculous. The PTA is not run by the principal. People like you guys complain just to hear yourselves. I thought open house was wonderful and if it weren’t for the PTA your children would not enjoy some of the things they enjoy today like the PLAYGROUND equipment. If you don’t like the school don’t send your children there.

By the way William why is it you close comment when someone bashes Mrs. Weaver or Mrs. Perry but do nothing when harsh remarks are made about Mrs. Pomeroy. And by the way the principal running the PTA whether true or not has nothing to do with open house so don’t use that excuse.

  15. Just looking in.... on September 11th, 2009 12:28 pm

I’m with you “Just Me”…I too volunteered my time and money to the PTA only to find it was run by the Principal. I have been a member of several PTA’s and this one is the worst I have seen, especially since Sandy Brown left office. There is no working together, you are either in the “click” or you are not. That seems to be what counts at Bratt.

  16. Just Me on September 11th, 2009 7:39 am

    Bratt parent,
You are right on. And muns1996, I was a member of Bratt PTA for many years. For the past 2-3 years, PTA has been run by the principal. I haven’t seen a PTA Officers ballot in that many years. I don’t join anymore, either. I might not go so far as to say it is a principal fan club, but they are all too scared of her to buck her in any way. I’ve heard this is her last year and I can only hope it’s true. She preaches about how we could be nothing without our parental involvement. Imagine what we could be if she hadn’t run off most of those willing to be involved. I love our school and I love our teachers and I imagine when Pomeroy is gone you will be able to feel the difference in the air.
    Taxpayer,
Please don’t start. Just let sleeping dogs lie. If this was the only way some of these parents could get to Bratt to show their support for their child, their child’s teachers, and their child’s school, then so be it. At least they were willing to come. The children are so proud to have their parents at their school. They don’t care how they got there.

  17. bratt parent on September 11th, 2009 7:15 am

muns1996 — you can’t just join the PTA and do something about it. They named officers without even having an election. That’s why my friends and I don’t join the PTA. It’s a principal fan club, not a school supporting body.

  18. muns1996 on September 11th, 2009 6:58 am

Good question taxpayer! That doesn’t seem fair. And…….bratt parent if you don’t like the way the PTA is run, join, and change things don’t sit around and complain because you don’t like the way things are going!!!!

  19. bratt parent on September 11th, 2009 12:15 am

I agree. There not as many people show up this year. And what was up with that video they showed? All that talk about 100% PTA membership and parent involvement? I did not join the PTA last year, this year or the year before that. I know dozens of parents that did not because they don’t like how things are run. How did they get 100%?

  20. Bratt Mom on September 10th, 2009 8:56 pm

I’ve had a child at Bratt for five years and that was the lowest turnout I’ve ever seen for an open house. Usually, you can’t walk the halls because it’s so crowded but this year it was really open.

  21. taxpayer on September 10th, 2009 8:34 pm

Why did a bus pick up parents from Century and not Walnut Hill area? Did the school board pay for this or the town of Century? Will a bus be provided for all P.T.A. meetings? Will we have trasporation to open house at Ernest Ward?
