McDavid Men Arrested For Possessing Drugs, Owl Feet

September 11, 2009

Two McDavid men are free on bond after being arrested for having drugs, drug paraphernalia  and the feet of an owl at an area fishing spot.

giddinsandbrooks.jpgJohn Wesley Brooks (pictured left), 33, of Black Road, McDavid, and Chad Andrews Giddins (pictured right), 33, of Christian Home Road, McDavid were fishing last Saturday morning. When the two men headed back to their trucks at Bogia Landing, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer at the fishing spot noticed a glass smoking pipe, according to the arrest report.

The Fish and Wildlife officer recovered the pipe after Brooks placed it on the ground, and it appeared to have a drug residue on it. The arrest report says that two large knives and a bag of methamphetamine were recovered from Brooks.

The officer then noticed two owl feet on the dash of Giddins’ truck. Giddins, according to the arrest report, said that he killed the owl after it killed his chickens. A search of Giddins’ truck uncovered bottles and tubing with meth residue, other items often used in the production of methamphetamine, and marijuana seeds.

Brooks was charged with possession of  drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $2,000 bond.

Giddins was charged with  possession of a controlled substance, possession of a listed chemical, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of migratory bird parts. He was released from the Escambia County Jail on $23,750 bond.

Both men are scheduled to be back in court for an arraignment hearing late this month.

For those of you who don’t enjoy DHG, don’t read it! Personally, I enjoy reading his thoughts~ maybe NE.com should give him a column of his own. I find it very refreshing and informative above and beyond the norm. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree, LHG. Matter of fact, in my opinion, it’s the ‘funny’ paper section of NE.com. We all need to find something to bring a little sunshine and laughter into our lives and those around us! Good job, DHG!!!

I enjoy David’s writing style and I know him to be a very intelligent man. I’ve never thought of him as the complaining type nor is he a “know it all”. If a person doesn’t care for his comments, why does that person read them? And I’m still trying to figure out what happened to Rule Number One as seen below.

I agree that it’s a shame that these drugs are so rampant, but honestly, folks, if you don’t want the kids getting into drinking, drugs and all other manner of undesirable activities, you absolutely MUST give them something ELSE to do. There used to be a bowling alley and a skating rink in Atmore. There was a movie theatre in Brewton. There were creeks we could go to and ride 4 wheelers and dirt bikes. We even had a drive-in in Century. All of this is no more.

IF YOU DON’T WANT YOUR KIDS DOING THE BAD STUFF, YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM SOMETHING ELSE TO DO!!!!! As long as there are no other fun activities……that’s what you’re going to keep getting. Think about it: if your child is involved in other fun activities, he/she isn’t going to be interested in getting stoned.

I actually find David Huie Green’s comments refreshing! LOL!
he says it how he sees it, almost as a child sees then says it ~ not worrying about what someone else’s opinion is! He points out things ‘normal’ people over look when they get on a ban-wagon.

Owls are NOT migratory birds….so they need to rethink the wording for “possession of migratory bird parts” charge. That charge could get dropped if a lawyer pushes it just because of the wording! Seen ones get off worse charges than that just because of how the charge was worded.
Yes, it is illegal to have owl parts, as any bird of prey~not because it’s migratory. (that includes hawks too)

Sick of David Huie Green on September 11th, 2009 11:39 am DHG- Is it you purpose in life to comment on every story William publishes?

Dearest Sick, I hope you get over your illness.

And regarding your question, obviously not. He publishes many, I comment on few. I commented on this one only because he wondered if all us rednecks do such things.

    Bless you, dhg

noteworthy because it is illegal to kill owls ,and hawks though it is done a lot around an area that also holds game chickens or what is known as fighting chickens. somee of these roosters cost a great deal of money.

Seems like a lot of younger folks are leaning toward drugs these days~ either using it, peddling it or producing it. Sad to see our young’uns getting caught up in all of that, but everytime you go to a doctor, they want to give you something that is addictive, even if you don’t want it or need it! And heck, if you listen to the possible side effects on tv commercials, makes you want to not take any of their drugs. Seems like most of the side effects are worse than the original problem.

As for the owl’s feet~ don’t seem like the owl needed them any more. Guess if it had been a road kill and he cut ‘em off, it still would have gotten him in trouble.
What’s this world coming to? Next thing you know they’ll be protecting rattler snakes saying they are an endangered species! Hello!!! if they get in my space they are dead meat! If they can survive what comes out of my pistol or a tire, they can live; otherwise, dead meat! I hate snakes and roaches! Gonna have a talk with Noah when I get up there about the roaches on the ark~for sure!!!

  14. hey!! on September 11th, 2009 9:38 am

Now, John Brooks is only 1 of MANY MANY MANY that need to be taken off the street!!!!! There is a large crowd of these “METH” users in Cantonment & Molino area that need to go down the stream with him. Now go figure, that most of them can be spotted in the parking lot of the bar taking a break and puffing on the pipe, and that includes the “ladies” as well. Its easy to spot one the ones Im talking about, just look for the bright yellow stain on thier teeth if they are luck enough to have teeth still.
Next, if the yellow stain hasn’t accured yet, just look for the sores, that is a given there. They are called “Meth MITES” !!!!!!!!!! WHAT a shame!!!!!!
I curse the day it was introduced to this area!!!!!

    owls migrate?

    what about foxes?????

  16. NHS Fan on September 11th, 2009 7:14 am

“Why were the owl feet noteworthy other than the fact that now everybody is going to want some?”

Could be noteworthy because the guy was charged with “possession of migratory bird parts”.

    It’s illegal to have them.

“Who would want to keep owl feet? Is that a redneck thing?”

    Could be.

I had a a fox tail for a while, took it off road kill across from Twin Oaks.

Coon tails used to be popular.

My mother had a deer hoof hanging on the wall for years.

Grandpa Green had Rudolph’s antlers on his wall.

Why were the owl feet noteworthy other than the fact that now everybody is going to want some?

Where are their shirts? Maybe that’s part of being stupid. Anyone dumb enough to cut off an owls feet……I would’nt want the bad luck these guys are in for!

Not the brightest light bulbs in the lamp. But then allege meth consumption doesn’t exactly create the illusion of intelligence.

    Good Job officer.
