A 10-year boy was injured in a dirt bike accident involving a pickup truck this afternoon on Hall Road in Bratt.

hallrd10.jpgThe accident happened about 4:45 Thursday afternoon on Hall Road north of Breastworks Road. The driver of the pickup apparently rounded a slight curve on the narrow dirt road where the boy was riding the dirt bike in the roadway. It was not immediately clear if the two vehicles collided, if the boy was struck by the truck, or if he fell off the bike trying to avoid the truck . He was found lying in the roadway several feet from both the truck and the dirt bike.

The boy was transported to Atmore Community Hospital with a leg injury. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire-Rescue, Atmore Ambulance and the Florida Highway Patrol  responded to the call.

The accident is under investigation by the FHP. Further details were not immediately available.

Kids do get hurt from time to time. By doing the right thing and sometimes by doing the wrong thing. I sure hope and pray he’s fine. And I do imagine mom will watch the 10 year old a little closer
At time in this old world that grows our children up so fast we find ourselves getting caught up in the fast lane. Unfortunately accidents jerk us back to reality and we do have a little child or teen who really isn’t ready for certain things. This was one mistake. Mom made. You know I myself having kids have done the same thing with other situations, yep, I’ve been real stupid also. Just as the child learns so do we learn what the right thing to do is. Moms and Dads sometimes need to take a second thought before buy something that could hurt a child.
    From one mom to another.

You do know that there are more than one Water Tank Rd in the county. The one at North Hwy. 99 past Bratt Elementary School is a dirt road. When you come off of N. 99 onto Water Tank on the left side of the road is only one house and deep ditches. On the right side is a big ditch up to the Water Works building and tower. Then two houses. Next time you come down it please watch for the cars stuck in the ditches and watch the water tower. Since the only way anyone could park on the left side of the road is in the ditch, so they must be stuck. We have leaved here for over 32 years and there has NEVER BEEN A TRAFFIC PROBLEM. The next time a bus driver runs over one of my cats, Please stop and bury it. That is the only problem we have besides people in cars trying to run us down when we are walking or checking our mail. There is a speeding problem on these roads and we hope that the sheriffs department will do something about it now before someone gets serously hurt.

I JUST HAVE TO SAY, I SURE HOPE THIS CHILD IS DOING WELL HOWEVER THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD EVER LET MY CHILD OF 10 YEARS OLD OR EVEN 13 YRS OLD RIDE ANYTHING ON ANY ROAD OTHER THAN IN A VEHICLE WITH AN ADULT DRIVER WITH A SEATBELT ON !!!!!!!!!!! MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS, A CHILD IS NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE LEFT AT HOME ALONE AT 10 MUCH LESS OUT RIDING THE ROADS ON A DIRT BIKE, ITS TOO DANGEROUS, VERY LUCKY TO HAVE NOT BEEN KILLED !!!!!! I HOPE ALL PARENTS WHOM ALLOW THIS TYPE OF FUN TO CONTINUE REALLY GIVE A THOUGHT TO HOW THIS COULD HAVE ENDED !

I had been driving on these roads a long time and I have never seen any cars or a bus speeding down these roads. The roads are so bad because there is no one to fix them. Yes there is a problem but its not speeders, I know that when you come off of Hwy 99 to Water Tank that there is cars parked on the left hand side and we have to stop for other people because cars are parked on the wrong side. I am so glad the boy is ok. People walk down the roads all the time. They also walk on Hwp 99. Some people don’t know what speed is. Just because you live on the road and people come by doesn’t mean they are speeding, if you are standing still. If the speed is wrong please let me know it 35 mph Thanks for your time. May God Bless

It’s against the law people. Guess some narrow minded parents need you to draw them a picture. Four wheelers and dirt bikes are dangerous pieces of equipment. They have no business on the road. Children under sixteen have no business on them.

Wanting to point fingers @ either the driver of the truck or the 10 year old boy is senseless. I agree,,,both need to slow down! Glad the boy is o.k.

We hope the young man is okay and we are extremely sorry that this had to happen in order to call attention to the SPEEDING OF CARS/TRUCKS ON THESE TWO DIRTY ROADS—HALL ROAD AND WATER TANK ROAD. The children and adults who live on these roads should be able to walk themselves or their animals, or ride their dirt bikes and four-wheelers on these roads without fear of being runover by a speeddemon. That truck and driver that hit that young man speed up and down these two roads all the time as well as the school buses and teenagers. Just because they are dirt roads does not mean that they are your personal race track. Maybe now the county will patrol these roads and not just be here when someone calls to complain and get here after the fact. As a matter of fact, if it had not been for the pile of dirt on our property at the corner of Hall Rd and Water Tank Rd, we would have a one of those speeddemons in our house a few weeks ago, but he/she hit the pile of dirt, tore up most of my flowers and continued on. Hopefully THEY learned their lesson that you cann’t come around that curve, from either direction, without slowing down. The sheriffs dept. needs to do something about the speeding on these roads before someone get killed.

Hope the ten year old boy will be O.K. This should come as no surprise to anyone who travels Hall Road or Breastworks Road. Dirt bikes and four wheelers with two or three boys, no helmets, fishtailing and zig-zagging. It’s just a matter of time before an accident finds a place to happen.
