Meet The Beat: Northview’s Tribal Beat Band Previews New Halftime Show

The Northview High School band previewed their new halftime show and other new songs during a special Meet The Tribal Beat program Friday night.

From Ghostbusters to September by Earth, Wind and Fire, the Tribal Beat’s musical repertoire has expanded this year under new Band Director Scott Slay.  Other new songs planned for this season include “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry, “Go With The Flow” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”.

“Students will be able to identify with music and enjoy it, but it probably won’t be music that they would have bought for themselves,” Slay told NorthEscambia.com recently.

Slay has added a “pit crew” to support the band, including an electric guitar and xylophone to support the woodwind instruments.

During the next year, the Tribal Beat will take on more of a local focus, the new band director said, marching and participating in local events and parades. For now, distant competitions and events are out while Slay works to improve and build the program. “It will be more of a focus of serving our communities,” he said.

The public will have another chance to hear the Tribal Beat Thursday night at 7:30 during the annual “Meet the Chiefs” program.

These kids worked HARD over the summer, and continue to work hard – silence came over the stadium when they began their warm up – and the crowd went wild when they got to the actual performance. I saw a TEAM of kids working together to pull off a great musical show. But I also saw great new directors, parents, grandparents, siblings and friends there in support of these kids. It all adds up to a fantastic recipe for success!

I think the comments about certain band members were students having fun amongst themselves = high school boys talking about their favorite majorette.

    The whole band is awesome!

How ridiculous! I saw 6 very talented majorette’s on the field. The flag people (sorry, don’t know your proper title) did a great job. The band put on a fabulous show and I can’t wait until Friday night! Everybody must have worked hard over the summer to put together such an excellent show, maybe you should remember that when you start singling out individuals!

As far as I remember there is ONE drum major and an assistant. The shorter girl with dark brownish hair named Melissa is the DRUM MAJOR and there is no blonde haired girl as the assistant drum major. Either way the band did great :) The band is going to have a great year.

Congratulations to Northview’s Performing Arts Director, Scott Slay and his assistants, Teri Adams and Tadd Corder! They have done a fantastic job of taking our band to a new level. If you were unable to attend last night’s event, you missed a great performance; however, there’re two more opportunities for folks to see the band in action next week: Thursday night at 7:00 P.M. at the “Meet the Chiefs” event and Friday night at the football game. Come out and support Northview High School and the Tribal Beat! Go Chiefs, Go and Go Peanut, we’re proud of you!
