Flomaton Grad Killed in Alabama Wreck

August 24, 2009

A Flomaton High School graduate was killed last week in a Dadeville, Ala., wreck.

ordis.jpgNicole (Gatwood) Ordis, 29, of Camp Hill, Ala., was the driver of a 2002 Mercury that collided with a 2002 Chevrolet on Alabama Highway 49 near Dadeville at 2:53 p.m. last Monday. Ordis was pronounced dead at the scene. Her one-year old son was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center and then airlifted to Birmingham’s UAB Hospital. He has since been released from UAB.

Originally from Brewton, Ordis was a 1997 graduate of Flomaton High School. She was a teacher at an Orlando, Fla., school until losing her job due to budget cutbacks. She and her husband Gene recently moved to family property in Camp Hill, located near Lake Martin northeast of Montgomery.

Family members say that Ordis was on her way to cash her unemployment check with the accident occurred.  Her husband had recently found a job at a Alabama hospital, but the couple had no medical or life insurance, according to family members.

Mrs Ordis was the best teacher a student could ask for. I had her 2 years in a row and she was the only teacher who really new how to explain things to us. She was the sweetest person anyone could meet. I am truly shocked to hear about this. It still doesnt seem true. Mrs Ordis will never be forgotten and will always be apart of Seminole High School. I will miss her and i am praying for her family. R.I.P Mrs Ordis

When I heard the news I was in shock and honestly thought it wasn’t for real. She was one of the few teachers from my high school, Seminole High, that I actually understood. She was an amazing teacher and she will be missed by every student and teacher from our school. Her husband and baby are in my prayers. I’m going to miss you Mrs. Ordis :[

Mrs Ordis was honestly the best teacher ever. This is so sad and unexpected, her and her family do not deserve it. I wish her family the best of luck and i will always remember her.

I am heartbroken about Nicole’s accident and untimely death. I worked with her at Seminole High School in Sanford, FL, and we became friends. I am praying for her husband and young child, who must be devastated. May she rest in peace and be in our memories. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do.
