Benefit This Weekend For Young Boy With Rare Condition

August 14, 2009

In December 2008, perfectly healthy  A’Darious “A.J.” Adams, 5, was unexpectedly stricken with a life threatening illness — Steven Johnson’s Syndrome.

The illness, which can be suddenly caused by an ordinary children’s painkiller medication, caused A.J. to suffer second degree burns to 95 percent of his body.

Relatives say that through his painful recovery from debilitating surgeries, skin grafts, and therapies, AJ has remained a bright energetic child. Secondary complications have caused tremendous scaring on AJ’s corneas and have left him blind in both eyes.

A.J. who is from Pensacola but has several North Escambia relatives, is in need of several expensive surgeries to restore his vision.

A free benefit concert will be held Saturday for A.J. at the Deliverance Tabernacle at 1780 West Detroit Boulevard in Pensacola. The event will feature church choirs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and quarter groups beginning at 3 p.m.

Donations can also be made at to the “A’darious A.J. Adams fund” at any branch of Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union.

For more information, contact Janice Spencer at (850) 968-3899 or 450-6966.

I recently got a 2nd degree burn on my leg and was researching the healing process of the wound…I came across A.J.’s story and it broke my heart. What a beautiful child he STILL is. Although this article is from 1 year ago, it is my prayer that little A.J. is doing well. I pray that everything that was taken from him will be totally restored….He is a trooper! May GOD CONTINUE TO GIVE HIM THE STRENGTH HE NEEDS during his healing process and to restore his childhood of learning, fun, laughter, family, and friends!

    I’m praying for you A.J.!!!!

    Love,

    JS

May God continue to bless this family. I can’t imagine what you are going through or what you have gone through. I know that you must be a strong family because God will put no more on us than we can bare. It’s just a test and I believe you have passed the test. Keep the faith and hold on to God unchanging hand. I believe the benefit program that you have planned has already been a success. If I had the money the surgery would have already taken place. Claim your baby healing in Jesus name.

wow…That’s one incredible youung man…wish I had his ability to endure affliction and have a good outlook. I guess I’m one of those that just takes things for granted (may God forgive me for that). I’m praying for you AJ.

I can’t believe there aren’t any surgeons that won’t just step up and do this work for free. It’s not like they are going to have to worry about everyone wanting free surgeries for their Steven Johnson’s Syndrome. Who else has it? It is unethical for anyone qualified to treat this child’s blindness to leave him blind for lack of money unless doing so would financially burden the physician.

The right person should be able to pull together a team of physicians and a hospital to treat this child for a very minimal cost.

I’m very sorry A J is having to go through this terrible sickness. I will put him and his family on my prayer list. We should all be so grateful for healthy kids and grandchildren. We take to many things for granted!! I pray all the money that is need will come in in abundance. God is able to do anything!!

May God continue to lay his had on this family. I know that is the only reason this child is still with his family. I hope you raise all the money you need. and then some.

May God bless this child and his family. I pray that they raise a lot of money for his care and expenses and that it raises awareness to others and teaches a valuable lesson to others! I teach my children to accept others regardless of color, disability, or APPEARANCE. There are so many scarred children and people that are so wonderful, and they deserve to be treated with the most UTMOST respect! Hugs to the family!
