Sid Wheatley To Be Northview’s Head Football Coach

July 17, 2009

Sid Wheatley is the new interim head football coach at Northview High School.

sidwheatley.jpgWheatley will fill the position left open when Cody Keene announced earlier this week that he was resigning to take a head coaching job at Hooper Academy in Montgomery. He has served as Keene’s assistant coach since the 2005 season, most recently coaching the offensive line and defensive backs last season.

Wheatley has servedĀ  as Northview’s baseball team since 2005, and he also teaches history at the school. Wheatley attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a Bachelor’s degree in coaching and sports administration.

This is not the first time Wheatley has served as a head football coach — he led Loyd Star High School in Brookhaven, Miss. from 2002 to 2003. He’s also served as an assistant football coach at various other schools in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

I am a football player for jv at northview and I am enjoying the change. Coach Wheatley is a very good coach and has made a dramatic improvment with the football program. Coach Weaver and Coach Smith have helped very much too. Northview has a great amount of heart after the change, knowing that this season will be a challenge. This season is going to be one of the best ever.

I was one of coach wheatleys first students when he came to nhs and i remember how excited he was to talk about history and faith hill lol.. too bad im already out of high school so he cant kick me out of his classes anymore.. Well anyways he is an excellent teacher and even better coach. Even though i hate to see coach Keene leave i know coach Wheatley will rise up to the challenge and finish what coach keene started with a great football team. Even though I’m in college now I still go for the Chiefs and I hope ya’ll have a great season this year! Go Luck Coach!

Who will take the baseball program if he takes football? Surely he won’t do both!

I never thought that coach Keene would leave. He was an awesome coach. But i think Coach Wheatley will do just as good, and keep Northview going in the right path. Way to Go Coach Wheatley.
