The Tri-County All-Stars were eliminated from  the District 1 Little League 8-9 Year Old All Stars Tournament in Walnut Hill Thursday night, and the team’s manager is proud of how his team played.

“These boys and coaches gave it all they had and played their hearts out. Everybody did their part for the team and courageously did all that was asked of them.  We kept battling back and never quit.  I’m real proud of them and couldn’t have asked for more,” said Manager Gary Killam.

I beg to differ. 21-20 does suggest a nail biter. Particularly at this age. Just ask the parents and children on either side if they were “biting their nails”. This was a double elimination tournament so the loser of this game was out because each of them had already lost once. As I said, each team went through several pitchers. Every pitchers is allowed only 75 pitches per game and if they do pitch that many, they have to have 4 days of rest before they can pitch again. Only 1 pitcher from each team pitched their 75 that night. Any negativity wasn’t necessary. This article was simply for Coach Killam to tell how proud he was of his players.

It doesn’t matter to me with those particular 8-9 yr olds…. but there is a reason games have time limits – to try to salvage kids’ arms from “daddy ball”
and a score of 21-20 hardly suggests a nailbiter

Most of the players are 9. It was a tournament game so there was no time limit. Notice very few strike outs so almost every batter would have gotten at least 4 pitches with the count actually being higher with strikes, balls, and fouls included. Both teams went through several pitchers so extra warm up time. The game was tied at the end of the 6th inning so they played a 7th. Why do you have to question it and what does it matter to you if the game was 3 1/2 hours or not?
