Scott Joseph Thompson appeared in Escambia County Circuit Court Wednesday, charged with the March murder of a Cantonment woman, Cheryl Cain.

Thompson, 29, made his initial court appearance via a video feed from the Escambia County Jail. Judge Thomas Johnson ordered Thompson held without bond and scheduled his next court appearance for July 1.

Thompson was already in the Escambia County Jail on 2007 narcotics charges when he was arrested for the murder of Cain, a former rodeo queen. He was charged with improperly exhibiting a firearm, petty theft, narcotics possession and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription on May 31, 2007. He was back in jail on the charges following a probation violation, according to court records, waiting for a bed to become available in a drug treatment facility.

Cain’s body was found in a dumpster behind a Highway 29 gas station in Pensacola on March 25.

DNA evidence from the dumpster and in Cain’s car were used to charge Thompson with murder, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department. Thompson’s DNA was reportedly found in Cain’s vehicle, which was located after the murder at a Pensacola motel.

Cain’s wallet was found under Thompson’s bed in Jay, authorities said. Thompson was the roommate of Cain’s ex-boyfriend, according to authorities.

You know I always thought innocent until proven guilty. There are a lot of controversial things going on. It seems that there had to be at least two people involved…so is this young man covering for someone else? I believe he knows something and maybe was an accomplise. I send my prayers to the family of the young lady but I also send my prayers to the family of Scott..they are also going through their own private hell.

Like Kevin said, they need to quit slapping their wrist and sending them on their way. I have faith though that sherrif Morgan will help us as much as possible, but it will be up to the courts to carry out proper punishment. My heart goes out to this young girls family and friends. I have three granddaughters and I know I would be out for blood if this happen to one of them.

Have the cops checked into the death of her best friend from a drug overdose back in October. Maybe these girls deaths are related. Scott Thompson could behind both deaths. Sure is weird how they both died with in a few months of each other. Didn’t the cops say they know more than one person was involved? People are posting on other websites that their is more to this story. If both girls were using a lot of drugs and the people they hang out with use a lot of drugs, the cops need to crack down on the drug use in this area. I hate that these two young ladies both lost their lives around drug activity. Warn your kids about drugs! and judges need to give bigger punishments to people who use drugs.

Do the authorities suspect a hit from ther ex boyfriend??

Jamal was let go because of witness tampering and the witnesses retracting / changing their testimony . If they want him in their community to wreak havoc -fine…… I don’t expect the same problem in this case. There is more a desire for justice than a desire to not be labeled a “snitch”.

I hope he gets the ultimate punishment. That poor lady was someone daughter, a neice, a friend… But I hope the ex gets something also if he ordered the hit. This just isn’t worth it. This was a horrible thing to do. So heartless. And cold. I send prayers to her family.
