Former Century Resident Dies After Being Shot In The Face

June 16, 2009

A former Century resident has died after being shot in the face Sunday afternoon in a dispute over a wallet  near Pensacola.

For an update to this story, including funeral arrangements, click here.

Jeffrey Carl Kimbrough, 41, was shot about 3:30 Sunday afternoon in the 1500 block of Gulf Beach Highway in the Warrington community in the southwest part of the county. The incident occurred at the Heritage Oaks Mobile Home Park, which has been without water for about a week due to a bill that the park owner did not pay to the Peoples Water Service.

Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies said Kimbrough confront Ellis J. McArthur of Bay Minette about a stolen wallet. That is when, according to deputies, McArthur pulled out a handgun and shot Kimbrough in the face. Kimbrough died Monday evening at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

ellismcarthur.jpgMcArthur, 17, has been charged as an adult with murder in connection with the incident. He is being held without bond in the Escambia County Jail.

The shooting incident occurred not far from where members of Pensacola’s First Assembly of God Church were holding services, grilling hot dogs and giving away water to the trailer park residents.

Friends and family members tell us that when he living in Century, Kimbrough was a member of Century Volunteer Fire Department.

Ellis and I went to school together and were good friends.
I honestly cannot believe he would be capable of doing such a thing. He was such a great, sweet, loving, giving, amazing person and friend. I was truely saddened by this, for the victim, as well as for Ellis.
It saddens me to know that Ellis would be capable of doing such a thing, due to he was so caring. As well as it saddens me that he did this knowing others would perish.
I just want everyone that sees this website to know, although a monstrous act was commited by him, Ellis was NOT a monster! He was very smart, he would have had a great future, if only he had applied himself. I cannot stress how caring, giving and all together amazing he is.
As for the family of the victim, I would just like to say, “I’m sorry for what you had to go through with this tragedy. I wish well to all of you.”

Jeffery was one heck of a good man. Very seldom did I ever see him without a smile and kind words for everyone he liked. But he would tell you how it is!!

If the peoples justice does not take care of this problem then the Lords justice will hand down what McArthur deserves it will only be a matter of time as we all will stand before him one day.

Jeffery you will be missed my friend

    Greetings,

Glad to hear about the Dogs coming back. Seems that the ECSO is running a tight ship nowadays, and thats good for the community and for officers who put there lives at risk, and lives of the working K-9. Well beef up the Dog Patrol.
    Good Policing lol

I remember Jeffery from school and he was always such a good person. I hadn’t seen him in years, but I still mourn the loss of “one of the good ones”.

    Mark,

You are right. The majority of us have failed to instill the proper values in our children. I don’t know if we can change the outcome now or not.

Jeffrey was a good man and will be missed by many. I pray for his wife and children.

SAD SAD STORY! My heart goes out to both families. It seems that this is the way so many people settle things these days. Where did respect for human life go? There will be another sad case before the week is out unless the trend does not continue. May GOD bless and comfort the ones left behind to grieve.

    Proverbs 13:24 (New International Version)

He who spares the rod HATES his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

This is another example of “Children” not being discipline and not having consequences for their action at an early age. I firmly believe we as parents have done a bad job of raising our children. Some of you that have done a great job, but the vast major of our youth have simple been a lost cause. Here are just a couple of examples: unwed mothers having children, kids having children, and I think most of all “NOT” having a Godly household to raise your children in and to teach them right from wrong. Spare the rod and spoil the child, enough said!!

“I can’t even begin to understand why such a young man would kill another person and ruin so many lives.”??????????

    You’re kidding right, “educator”?

When you understand there are obvious differences in the moral (unwed pregnancy rate of 70%) and charactological make-up (40+%) convicted felons) of various communities and how they view life and are driven by ignorance and an infinite supply of insecurity, you’ll begin to understand why a young “man” (LMAO) would kill another person. This “young man” as you so graciously and inaccurately call him, is a much an animal as any now living in the jungle.

it really troubles me to hear about citizens getting shot and killed over silly things. I can’t even begin to understand why such a young man would kill another person and ruin so many lives. I pray for the Kimbrough family as they cope with this loss and I also pray for the McArthur family as they prepare for a loss. I can only hope young ellis mcArthur will look to god for forgiveness and guidance as his future is very uncertain now. such a tragedy.
