Whataburger Closing Some Florida Stores; Century To Remain Open

May 23, 2009

Whataburger says they are closing 14 Florida restaurants on May 31, but Pensacola area stores — including the one in Century — are safe for now.

The company says it is closing the stores due to low sales. They are all company owned stores near Gainesville, Ocla, Orlando and Tampa.  The 14 fast food restaurants were opened by a franchisee but purchased by the Whataburger company in 2007.

When the Century Whataburger opened in December 2007, it was owned by a franchisee. It and 22 others in the Florida Panhandle were sold back to Whataburger about seven months ago. The company says the Century store and the others in the Floirda Panhandle will stay open.

Most of Whataburger’s 700-plus stores are in Texas.

The 14 central Florida stores  are being closed due to low sales, company officials said.

Visited a Whataburger a few years back in Central Florida and the food was excellent compared to the National Fast Food Chains. Wish they has such great food here in New York with Whataburger taste and the milkshake was the best I have had in years! Do understand Whataburger is from Texas so, NY will not have any as they are located in the southern U.S.A.! People deserve a great burger, along with other foods & drinks, Whataburger provides exactly that and more! When I am in Jacksonville, Florida passing thru….I will stop at a Whataburger and enjoy the best burger a& shake on the planet…….

I was sad when I found out the news that Whataburger closed its restaurants in Florida. Their prices and food were good. So much better than Five Guys. There is a Whataburger in South Carolina definitely worth the drive from DC.

I am sad to see Whataburger fail in Florida. My family lived in Orlando for a decade and were thrilled when it came to Florida. The problem is that it was not the same as the 700 locations in Texas. There was no way to compare the Texas locations to the Florida because of the difference in culture between the states.

We moved back to Texas and visit Whataburger at least 10 times a month. You will be missed!!!!

Ed at your store on A1A in Yulee, Florida on may 28,2009. Just had a very pleasant experience with one of your employees named Amber Meredith. She even carried my order out to the car for me.

I never said it was an empoyee, it was just some ones friend just hanging around. That is why I complained to the manger of that fast food place. Never did I say it was whataburger, I love whataburger I eat there about 4 to 5 times a week. And for your information YES it was true. It happened at Burger KIng.

If you want real good food with a positive family atmosphere, go to the Sandwich Deli. My wilfe and I and kids have been eating at the Sandwich Deli for years. GREAT PLACE!

I like the idea that they hire local high school kids, otherwise they probably wouldn’t have any where to work. For the most part I enjoy their burgers and shakes.

I am so happy Whataburger is safe. You can tell the employees try to make the Whataburger experience a memorable one. The Century store services the whole northend and we are very proud of our Whataburger. For the comment on the employee holding his pants up and the cell phone in the other hand, has to be made up. I’m sure there are dress code regulations enforced and I have never witnessed any such a thing. I have always been quite pleased with the service and everyone has always been polite. We are proud of our Whataburger in Century, Keep up the good work!

Whataburger is by far the best fast food joint around, when I found out the news of them closing down 11 stores “including the closest one to me on ulmerton” I was shocked. I understand sales are down but The amount of advertising combined with promotions they do is nothing compared to other fast food restaurants, no wonder they have no business. No one knows who they are! Unless if you are from texas.

Whataburger is probably the best fast-food hamburger restaurant in the world – it’s definitely much better than In&Out. I wish they would stay open in central Florida. Not only are their burgers the best of the fast-food burgers, but their customer service is far and away the best of the bunch.

Hey, it’s about the same at all of them. They just don”t have $1.00 menu. If you want cheap go to Burger King And Church’s, but most of the time there are people sitting around and talking, flirting or what ever there. It’s hard to get them to take you order. I have even been asked to pull up and they would bring my food out to me. A young man holding his pants up with my food at his croth and cell phone in the other. I did complain. At whatabuger it’s $6.01 for large combo and it’s large tax and all.At the farmers market it’s $5.75 before tax at Burger King it is $5.35 see not much different. It’s a matter of where you want to eat.

With their prices, it’s no wonder they are closing. Whataburger is the highest burger joint around.
