Over 100 members of the Class of 2009 graduated Saturday afternoon from Northview High School.

“God cannot be ignored,” Valedictorian Luke Fletcher Killam said in his address, referring to the ACLU lawsuit against Santa Rosa County concerning religion in schools.  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”

“It seems in this day that we’ve ignored that,” he added, saying that our nation was founded on God. “Separation of church and state will never mean separation from God.”

“Let the hand of God guide all that you do,” Killam told his fellow graduates.

Escambia County School Superintendent  Malcolm Thomas’ address to the graduating seniors centered around their class motto.

“God, grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change; the courage to change the things we can; and the wisdom to know the difference,” the Northview Class of 2009 Motto says.

“The way they got here is that attitude, that motto, they set at the first of the year,” Thomas said. “I challenge you to dream the dream; then go and have the courage to go and make it true.”

“By conquering our fears, I believe we can accomplish,” Salutatorian Lanie  Jeannine Eubanks said.

Thought it was a good ceremony, much better than 05, but I think it’s unfair for any parent to have to watch their child graduate on the Big Screen in the theatre! Maybe family gets priority and friends watch in the theatre or find a bigger arena.

I didn’t have a problem hearing any of the ceremony, and I was on the top row of bleachers. I’d rather it be in the gym thatn have to go to the CivicCenter like so many schools do.

That was a very impressive speech Luke. Graduates…..hope you listened well, and always be a member of the God Squad.

I hope the school will consider having the graduation ceremony in a diferent location for future classes. The seating arrangements were uncomfortable and to close together. With that said..CONGRATULATIONS Kristina, Caylan, Stormy, Haley, and to the rest of the class of 2009.

So proud of all the graduates, I just hope next year administration can sit with the families, so they can see that you can’t see or hear any of the ceremony. To small of a space and the audio was terrible.

New graduates, I would like to share some words of wisdom that were shared with me:
Never forget your roots, Remember your past and Embrace the future. Remember there will be times of Difficulty and Sadness, and times of Happiness and Prosperity. Never compromise your integrity, Always be true to yourself and Thank God Daily for your Blessings. I hope you Carry your success with you and achieve all the things you set out to accomplish.
