Deputies Investigating Drive-by Shooting In Century (Updated With Name)

May 11, 2009

driveby.jpg (Updated) The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred Monday morning in Century.

Kevin Lamar Brown, 29, was shot in the arm on Ramar Street with a small caliber weapon, according to Lt. Carl Jones with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department. Brown was driven in a private vehicle to Jay Hospital with  non-life threatening injures just before 10 a.m.

Brown reported that he was shot from the passenger side of a four-door gray car as he walked down Ramar Street mid-morning. His mother, who lives on Ramar Street, reported that she heard three shots, Jones said.

“But no one else heard anything,” Jones said.

The shots were reportedly fired from a silver or gray four-door older model car, possible a Pontiac Grand Prix, Grand Am or Bonneville, occupied by at least two black males. Brown told deputies that he did not know the shooter.

According to court records, Brown is no stranger to the legal system. He is due to be in court later this week on drug charges from 2008, including possession of a control substance and marijuana possession.

The president also lived in Hawaii not century.

The story doesn’t say the victim was black , it just said he said the shooters were black. Racism just isn’t a good card to play these days.
There doesn’t seem to be much truth. He didn’t know his attackers ?
Why don’t you save some time and go straight to blaming the white middle class for all the problems.

It’s me,…………..I think your right, racism still exists because it is black people who keep bringing it up. I have ween Ramar St. It is in the same boat as Pond St. As for your Obama comment, folks seem to forget that he had a white momma.

Get real it’s me. As far as your problems. Seems like you have control over most of your bad choices. As far as the 2009 comment , what in the world does that mean and who’s talking about racism ? Sounds like you don’t have anywhere stand.

  4. It's me on May 14th, 2009 9:07 am

Why is everbody bad talking Ramar st. Is it because of hear say? If you was to go down there you would see that there is more kids then adults that live down there. There is about 15-20 kids compaired to 10-15 “if that” adults. What the problem with Century is that there is still racism with the job hiring. I am white and can not get a job to hir me because I am with a black guy. So everybody in Century needs to get their stuff in order it’s 2009 and Obama is the president.

Betty Boop, what is being said, is that Kevin is not getting any sympathy from anyone. There is good people in Century, but there is a big section of scum around Pond St, Ramar etc,,,,,,that needs to be evaporated……..just wiped out off of the map. Century would be a Great place to visit then, maybe some industry would be attracted to the area. But what is it that they see when they roll into town, trash….. Why is it that Deputies have to babysit apartment complexes throughout the county……ie, Century Woods, Forest Creek( in Warrington), Truman Arms ( W St),,,,,,I wonder why….could it be that a particular type of people can’t behave. likes to sell drugs, do drive-bys, hang out on street corners all day with a Quart beer bottle in hand,,,,,with no job and not wanting to work because their girlfriend is getting SSI checks for the 3 different babies from their 3 differebt daddies, if they don’s know who that daddy is????????This is the core of Century’s drug problem and the reason Kevin is not getting sympathy….because you can bet that this shooting is drug related.

WELL I THANK THAT JUST BECAUSE ITS A CRACK ALLEY DON’T MEAN NOTHING TO ME. OKAY KEVIN HAVE A DRUG CHARGE THAT DON’T MEAN U GOT TO LOOK AT HIM DIFFERNET FROM OTHER PEOPLE AND HE ALSO GOT SHOT SO WHAT YOU TRYING TO SAY. YOU AIN’T GOING TO HELP HIM BECAUSE HE GOT A DRUG CHARGE. THAT HOW I LOOK AT THE POINT OF VIEW.

And p.s……….yes! and double yes!!! People who are already known criminals should be looked at differently!!!! Law enforcement officers have a great sense of intuition when it comes to dealing with criminals!!!! I didn’t say treated differently either!!

  8. Beegee on May 12th, 2009 4:02 pm

I don’t think folks are writing on here to try to “make” Century look bad……the folks that are acting criminally already have!!!!!!!!!! Century is known as a great big drug problem…….do you think the good citizens who express their opinions on here, made that happen????? I don’t think so!!!!!!!!

  9. drw on May 12th, 2009 3:37 pm

obviously they cannot say grammar or else they could spell better! tllk-the reason it is looked at differently is probably due to the drug charges because the shooting WAS probably drug related AND it took place on a street known for drug problems….hence the name “crack alley” you genius! anyone with common sense would understand that one!

Yes, if a person is habitually in the criminal justice system they should be looked at differently. Kevin is a parasite on humanity as are many people like him. The police should investigate his shooting just as they would for anyone else but society should not mourn the loss of a scourge like this guy. If individuals want to mourn his getting shot because he surrounds himself with other criminals so be it but the rest of society won’t.

    Shoot “scraighter” next time homie.

  11. BEERAD on May 12th, 2009 10:40 am

    WOW! Can anyone say grammar?

  12. tllk on May 12th, 2009 9:25 am

IT DOSENT MATTER IF HE HAD DRUG CHAGES BEFORE THE POINT IS THAT HE GOT HURT.SO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME JUST BECAUSE A PERSON HAS DRUG CHARGES THEY HAVE TO BE LOOKED A DIFFERNT.I THINK THAT IS VER WRONG.AND FOR THE POLICE OFFER WHO SAID IT IS KNOW FOR CRAK ALLEY YALL TRY MAKE CENTURY LOOK BAD BUT ITS NOT.

  13. curious on May 11th, 2009 5:17 pm

    what time did it happen?

  14. E.M.D. on May 11th, 2009 11:08 am

When I worked in that area, I was told that the real name of that “street” is “Crack Alley.” I have reason to believe that. I am glad I do not have to go there anymore, and even more glad that the 2 reasons I had to go there, are not there anymore. And, I thank God they are not.
