Work Continues On Rain Delayed Hwy. 97 Turn Lane

April 21, 2009

Work to install a turn lane on Highway 97 at Highway 4 in the Davisville community should be finished in the next two to three weeks. The project was due to be finished by the first week of April, but repeated heavy rains and flooding delayed the project, said Tommie Speights, spokesperson for the Florida Department of Transportation.

The project will widen both sides of Highway 97 to install the turn lane from southbound Highway 97 onto Highway 4. There will not be a northbound turn lane.

Let’s be greatful for the very nice soon to be improvements. Think about it. When you have several JOBS going on, or a special project comes up to guard the satety of the pupil you have to stop and take care of this.
It happens all the time to all of us. We start a project and because something comes up we have to switch lanes. Be patience. Time goes by to fast.
And about that what seems like laziness. We are all guilty of not giving a full 100 percent every day. That stop to ask how someone,s doing, a personal phone call, staying to long here or there. We are all in the same boat. Besides Escambia County is a big place. I sure they are more jobs than this one that have required the services of our Men and Women in our county work force especial after those bad rains and weather.
Let’s be greatful for the blessing we get.

I wish north escambia would do a story on this Mr. Lonnie. Who is he, and is he the man getting things done in the north end of our county? If so I thank you for the job you and your men are doing. Keep up the good work.

If you want to see “slow”, go to south Escambia County. At least up here in north Escambia, when they get started on a project, results are not far away. When country folks have a job to do, they tend to want to get ‘r’ done asap. Matter of fact, most of this crew needs only to be pointed in the direction and they know what to do. I appreciate the good jobs they do and seldom get even a thank you from the very people who complain. We are blessed in the north end to have a hard working crew like we do and with good supervision….way to go Mr. Lonnie!
Sooo, on the project that is going on at 97 and 4…has nothing to do with the “county”…Hello! It’s a “STATE” hwy. The state is responcible for this project, and it is a contractor they have hired to do it! Go figure!

This is not the county , this is a private contractor.

They didn’t work on it at all for 2 weeks, and there were no heavy rains during that time.

You may want to do more research on this project. I was told that there isn’t going to be a turning lane and that they are almost finished.

LOL….kinda funny that whenever we drive by there in the afternoons, when it’s not raining, no-one is there working either. Or maybe they just knock off work early and I’m not seeing them. At any rate, what could have been a 1-2 month project turns into a 3-4 month project.

I’m curious….do they get paid by a time frame that it takes to complete the job or by the project itself?
