April 29, 2009

One person was injured in a two vehicle accident just before 7:00 Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 168 and Pine Barren Road near Bratt. The driver of a Ford pickup apparently pulled from Pine Barren Road into the path of another pickup. The second truck broadsided the Ford, sending it into a power pole, snapping the pole.

The driver of the second truck, a 19-year old female, was transported from the scene by Atmore Ambulance with a possible broken ankle. The driver of the Ford was not injured.

Residents in the area did not lose power until about 8:00 when it was cut by Escambia River Electric Cooperative in order to repair the pole.

The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

I have lived around that intersection for years and have traveled hwy 168 2 and 3 times a day and pine barren . I was not there so I could not say what caused the wreck but I will say everyone knows it gets very foggy in the north end also I have seen cars not come to a complete stop, I also have seen cars traveling way too fast . Im just thankful to hear those involved are alive ! accidents happen ! you can always learn from them also . Just remember things happen for a reason wether we know what the reason is or not!

Gotta get me a Ford !!!!!!
Guess I have been missing out on all that power.

Hmm. Come to a complete stop, pull out into an intersecton, completely change the direction of the vehicle that hits me and still have enough momentum to snap a fairly new telephone in two at the base.

Guess them Ford’s really do get off the line.

    Speedy recovery to all.

“uninvolved people have no right to have an imput!”

It is actually input and since you weren’t physically there – that would also include you, girlfriend.

    Also –
    (2) No Harrassing Comments. If someone says something bad about you, don’t respond. That’s childish.

Driver already explained she wasn’t making a direct accusation…let it go. As previously mentioned, be glad the accident was not worse and that everyone is here to tell about it……God Bless.

To the guy in white truck and gf

No one ever said they were blaming the guy in the white truck for not stopping. you’re right no one knows but the two involved. I am truly glad that no one was seriously hurt as I said before. I was just making a general statement from my point of view about OTHER PEOPLE not always stopping because I travel that road every day! I never said that that was what had happened with that wreck. So quit getting all defensive about a GENERAL statement. Again, I was NOT accusing anyone not stopping in this accident!!

I got a call ten minutes after it happened…he said it was foggy and he didnt see anyone comin.he frequently drives that way to school.i personally dont know where the accident was located by experience but from my understanding its a bad way to go.he said he had came to a complete stop and then took off.so for the ones whom see it appropriate to point blame can keep opinions to them selfs! the only two ppl that know what really happened are the two drivers…nick and brittany(im assumin).uninvolved people have no right to have an imput!
we should just all be thankful that they are both alive and breathing.stuff happens and as a young driver i know first hand that sometimes judgement isnt our best qualities…and both drivers are young i might add!

we hope brittany recovers and nick would really like to give brittany a call to apologize and see how she is doin.
    -thank you

Yes, that intersection is a bad one. And very busy in the mornings. You would think being that far out in the country it wouldn’t have so much traffic, but it does. Everyone be safe. Wrecks are plentiful these days. And yes, William is doing a great job!

For those who know Britt: I just left her at 8:30. Her ankle was shattered, requiring extensive surgery. Otherwise she’s banged up and sore, with a few scratches. Drowsy from pain meds and quite uncomfortable she still showed her Brittney sense of humor and smile. Gotta love that lady. It’ll be a long recovery, and not easy, but they say she’ll be fine.

I wonder if a cell phone played any part in it!!!! Don’t crucify me…..I was just curious!!!

I’m sorry for all involved. Britt, we hope you will be back on your feet soon. We all miss you here. Hate that it happened and could understand if it was foggy this morning, but instead was very clear.

Im truly very sorry for the people who were involved in the accident this morning. They really do just happen sometimes.
I live within ear shot of this corner. And it has more going on than you might see passing by on your way to somewhere else.
This intersection is the areas main stop for those who drink and drive when they want to drink and sit. Not just at night but anytime. Not just by evidence do I know this but by the personal encounters with these lovely people.
Another reason to stop there is if you have something you don’t want to put in your trash you can leave it on the side of road. The creek is special , that’s used for the yearly hunting season. You hunters that make the rest of us look bad know what you do there.
Not to be the least problem but the last. Broken down cars can be there for weeks.

Please help a community and as you drive to where your going call someone when see things that are wrong being done. I will when come you way.

  13. driver on April 29th, 2009 12:30 pm

Thank you EWHS grad!! That was exactly what I was meaning. I do travel that road everyday and have had a few close calls at times.

  14. driver on April 29th, 2009 12:22 pm

To guy in white ford. I wasn’t talking about you this morning. I was just making a general comment about other drivers in that area that don’t stop. I never said YOU didn’t stop so maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to jump to the defensive side. I understand it was foggy this morning but I am glad you and the other driver are ok.

  15. EWHS Grad on April 29th, 2009 12:18 pm

Judging from the looks of the two vehicles everyone should be really glad no one was hurt worse than they were.

To “guy in white ford”…did it cross your mind that perhaps the person who spoke of people not coming to a complete stop at that intersection was not referring to or implying any thing against you in particular, but rather making a general statement? If that person comes through there on a regular basis, then maybe they have been witness to others not coming to a complete stop before crossing or pulling out onto Hwy 168. Perhaps they’ve even had a few close calls.

Maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to be rude to someone who really isn’t pointing blame at you.

To the one under this comment, i just would like to inform you that i did come to a complete stop but it was to foggy to see so you need to keep comments like this to your self thank you have a nice life!!!

  17. driver on April 29th, 2009 10:01 am

That is a bad intersection. I live on that road and most every morning when I am coming up to that intersection taking my son to school, someone pulls out across 168 right in front of me without even stopping. Glad to hear there were no major injuries. Maybe people will see what happened this morning and start coming to a complete stop before pulling across the road.
