April 25, 2009

A Cantonment man was arrested for DUI on a bicycle after a Highway 95A crash Friday evening.

kennedytarry.jpgThe Florida Highway Patrol says Tarry Bryant Kennedy (pictured left) of Cantonment was traveling south on a bicycle on the shoulder of Highway 95A in Cantonment when he veered into the path of a Honda motorcycle driven by Melissa A. Epps, 33, of Milton.

Both Epps and Kennedy received minor injuries in the accident. Kennedy was treated and released Friday night from West Florida Hospital.  Epps was not transported to the hospital.

Kennedy, 48, was charged with violation of right of way and DUI on a bicycle and booked into the Escambia County Jail.

The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Only in my hometown could something like this happen. I have lived in the big city of Houston since 1978. I grew up in Bratt. I have never heard of anyone getting arrested or ticketed for riding a bicycle while under the influence. Yes there is no doubt that God was watching out for both of them. I would like to know was is the legal ETOH level to ride a bike on the road? What was his ETOH level? And what if he had not been drinking and the accident still happened, would he still have been arrested? I am sorry that the accident did happen to Melissa and am very blessed she did not suffer major injuries but still, is arresting this man really necessary? Where is the law on drinking ETOH and riding a bicycle? I am not condoning what happen but what if he had been walking and he accidently walked out in the road? Would he have been arrested for trying to be safe and not operate any type of transportation while under the influence? It is horrable that it happened, but think about it a bicycle DUI.

actually, my bike just had cosmetic damage. I am very thankful for God’s hand of protection on my life and on Mr. Kennedy’s life.

That was pretty stupid of him; he could have killed her.

Well, there’s two bright sides to this………no death due to alcoholism and at least he wasn’t driving a vehicle where the potential grows higher for death!!!!!
