FHP Conducting Traffic Crackdown Through Today

April 25, 2009

The Florida Highway Patrol has kicked off a statewide traffic enforcement operation focusing on speeding, improper lane change, failure to use turn signals and aggressive driving violations.

Operation Safe Ride will continue through midnight Saturday with all available FHP personnel participating the crackdown.

“We want Florida’s motorists to have a pleasant, crash-free driving experience,” said Col. John Czernis, director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “Our troopers are here to take enforcement action on those drivers who choose to put themselves and others in danger.”

Troopers use RADAR, LASER, motorcycles and marked and unmarked patrol vehicles to track speed violators. FHP also engages its aircraft to spot violators from the air and then direct troopers on the ground to pull them over and initiate appropriate enforcement action.
