Deputies Bust Major North Escambia Burglary Ring

March 17, 2009

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department has busted up a major burglary ring operating in the North Escambia area, arresting three people and recovering perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise.

Three people — a female and two males — were arrested Monday by deputies after an attempted burglary on Clymil Drive, just south of Williams Ditch Road in the Cottage Hill area. Deputies say at least two more people are expected to be arrested in connection with the burglaries. In all, the suspects are believed to be responsible for about 25 burglaries in the area.

“We recovered a lot of merchandise,” Lt. Tony Jordan of the Escambia Sheriff’s Department told NorthEscambia.com. Property recovered from an apartment complex on Olive Road in Pensacola included a long list of big screen TVs, jewelry, games systems, DVDs, computers and more.

The arrests came Monday after the Clymil Drive resident came home to find a vehicle backed to his home and called for help. Deputies located the vehicle and made their arrests, but not before the female suspect reported that she had been carjacked, Jordan said.

The persons arrest Monday are possibly linked to 25 similar burglaries across the area this year, according to the Sheriff’s Department. In the typical burglary, one suspect would knock on the front door of the home. If no one answered the door, the suspects would back their car up to the home and kick in the backdoor, Jordan said. Most of the took place in isolated areas, often at homes where trees or shrubbery block the view of the home from the road.

In an incident last week, a man returned to his home in the 4000 block of Chestnut Road  in Molino to find one of the burglars inside his home.

Most of the burglaries took place in the Cantonment and Molino areas, Jordan said. Deputies have not been able to determine if an incident late last week on Morgan Road in Walnut Hill was related. In that incident, the resident told deputies that he arrived at his home to find two black males in a white work-type truck in his backyard. They told the resident that they were there to fix a refrigerator.

The names of the suspects taken into custody Monday were not released by deputies due to the ongoing investigation and pending arrests.

More details on this story when they become available.

    N.I.M.B.Y.
SOLVED? Has it been solved? Stop beating up on the “po po”? READ again what I wrote. This is not beating up on the po po.
What I wrote was a quote” NOT MUCH WE CAN DO, WE WILL MAKE A REPORT AND YOU CAN FILE IT ON YOUR HOMEOWNER’S, WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF THESE IN THE AREA.
Like I said “KUDO’S TO THE COMMUNITY’.
All the people that were robbed, community looking out for each other, I am very much against CRIME.
Don’t dog me for believeing that the community is who stopped this.

DBG….. Policemen rely heavily on community tips. Your supposed to be proactive and vigilant against crime in the neighborhood so stop beating up the po po and be glad this one was solved.

    Hold up!
Not even the deputies worked these crimes.
My family member in cottage hill had his door kicked in while he was at work, cops called him to come home when a neighbor spotted the door.
Cops told him ” not much we can do unless the perps get caught in another burglary” we will make a report and you can file it on your homeowners insurance”….
I would like to know “everyone that got robbed” what the cops honestly told them.
My family member went on a crusade in cottage hill questioning neighbors, going up and down williams ditch road, had a lot of people in that area on the lookout.
now the person on clymil road that called cops, lives just around the corner from my family member who was robbed………
The only reason the cops got them is because of citizens, not the work of the deputies. And now if they catch the rest of the “ring”, it will be because these kids are telling the story.
    So I say “KUDO’S TO THE COMMUNITY’……………………….

Ditto to Kudos! Morgan is a token presence in this case, absolutely no contribution to what the deputies have done.

Why is everyone thanking Morgan he wasn’t the one investigating these crimes, these crime would have been solved with or without him. The deputies were the ones that worked theses calls. So with that, Thank you to all the deputies that work hard patrolling the streets of your county and those who investigate these crimes.

It is nice to know that they are doin a good job!!! My sons motorcycle was stolen about a month ago and I agree with u “Thankful Cantonment Resident” about despising a thief. We worked hard to buy our son that motorcycle and they just came and took it . I know it’s not always the case but most of the time I think that drugs fuels the stealing habits! I just hope that whoever took my sons motorcycle can sleep well at night knowing what they done! I keep my fingers crossed that the sheriff’s department will find it!!

Makes me smile to know I voted for David Morgan. In his short tenure he has done more for us that McNugget ever dreamed.

I agree with you Cantonment resident. It will be such a waste if the judicial system, doesn’t do their job. Thanks sheriff’s department for all your hard work.

    KUDOS……..Great job Esc Sheriff’s dept. !!

I absolutely despise a thief. They’re too darn lazy to get a real job.

Now, we just have to keep our fingers crossed that our judicial system doesn’t fail and make these deputies hard work in vain.
