Florida Dept. of Transportation needs to take a look at how the sides of the road are steeply curved. They contribute to roll overs when people get off on the shoulders of the road.

I have noticed much more traffic on 97 since the casino opened. These new travelers may not know this highway as well, and I am sure that speeding around the many curves does not help. People traveling 55 mph on that road is rare. Also, there are only a couple of “safe” stretches to really pass other vehicles on this road. Coming home the other night, we were behind a vehicle swerving from one side to the other. I know I am going to be even more careful when traveling that highway, and I travel it often.

I/m glad she walked away and didnt take out another with her. She lost it topping the lil hill with left hand bend at top . Speeding and dozing off at the wheel have played a big part in many of the accidents up here on 97. drove by it shortly after and was sure they’d been hurt, very lucky for sure.

I agree that hwy.97 is,indeed,a bad hwy……but!!!!! It really all boils down to driving safely. I know accidents happen to safe drivers….and most of those occur when the other driver is not driving safely….this being a single car accident just drives home the point: Please drive safely. Awfully glad the lady was given yet another chance to practice good driving skills.Could’ve been the last chance…….

Hwy 97 is not a “bad” road. Driver inattention, distractions, dui’s, human error and plain old speeding are some of the common factors in most all traffic accidents. I work on an ambulance and my husband is a police officer so we know first hand. If drivers will slow the heck down and pay close attention there would be a lot fewer accidents. This driver was very fortunate to have not been injured or hurt someone else.

I will say 97 is a bad road to travel when you know it. I have never had cell service going down that road. So I willing to bet this person didn’t either.

I wonder if the driver was trying to read or send a text message, or attempting to perform some other non-driving function, which could have contributed to this crash. On a positive note, It is good that no one was injured.
