Accident Injures Three Northview Students; One Transported By LifeFlight

Three Northview High School students were injured in a single vehicle accident about 9:00 Wednesday night, with one being transported from the scene by LifeFlight.

Troopers say Victoria Chavers, 16, was eastbound on the dirt portion of Greenland Road when she missed a 90 degree curve, struck a ditch and power pole, and overturned her Volkswagon Beetle. The vehicle came to rest upside down.

Authorities say Victoria and her younger sister Tiffany Chavers were able to crawl out of the vehicle. Blaze Green, the backseat passenger was trapped in the vehicle until extricated by firefighters. Ages of Tiffany Chavers and Green were not immediately available from troopers.

Green was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola by LifeFlight. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Victoria and Tiffany Chavers were transported by Atmore Ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Friends and family members tell NorthEscambia.com than Victoria, who is known by the nickname Tori, had received the car as a Christmas present.

The accident left homes in the area in the dark for over two hours while crews from Escambia River Electric Cooperative worked to replace a broken power pole.

The accident was about 1.7 miles east of  Highway 97 near Davisville, about a half mile south of the Alabama state line. There were no obvious signs on the county dirt road warning of the approaching curve, nor were there any warning signs in the curve. The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and the Atmore Fire Department also responded to the crash.

Hi, to all, I saw Blaze today and she really looked good. I talked to her and her parents, after I letting her brother off. Blaze as always a smile on her face.
Blaze take care and get well soon. Glad to see you home.

what a huge impact from this single car accident! may god be with you girls and their family and friends and give them the strength to get well and overcome this.i would like to make a few comments about the person, they call themselves “concerned parent”…..i don’t think this person is “bashing”these girls….i think this person is trying to say….at 16 yrs old when they are given a right to start driving it’s the best thing in the world and it better than having parents be the chauffeur all the time….but at that age for me i was also inexperienced….i didn’t care about the knowledge…etc that goes with being behind the wheel, persay….i believe that the driving age should be more stricter and more supervision for the underage driver’s. i have been going to this web site every morning and have seen 4 accidents, careless one’s from driver’s under the age of 18 yrs old….i think these driver’s along this age group shouldn’t treat driving as a privilege and it should be known it is a right….to drive a motor vehicle…..i was taught that when i was 16 yrs old and was handed the keys and my driver’s liscence …i’m in my 30’s now and i really have much more wisdom and knowledge than at 16 yrs old……i hope these girls get better and the families god bless them….and please be careful on the highways young ladies! and yes,i’m a parent as well….and when my girls reach these ages,i’m going to make sure they are have many years of experience and supervision under their lil belts before they clean the highways.

I am so glad to hear that the girls are doing better. Blaze rode my bus and she is a very responsible girls. Always very respectable to everyone and I think when she get 16 that she will be a good driver. Things happen regardless to what age they are. Just quit tripping on these girls. I have 5 children and everyone of them where different. Some you could let drive at 16 and others you had to stay a little closer. Because children and so different but everyone, that have children tries to do there best. I see children (boys) all day long being crazy drivers, but there parents would never think that, those children know who they are and they are older than 16 and they go to Northview High School. Girls stay strong and keep your heads held high and hurry back. Parents stay strong and if you need anythings and I can help, just call.

Oh yes, there are alot of road in the north end that don’t have road signs. Remember a couple of years ago, when the young man went off the road, that was on Kansas Rd and his car when over the inbankment and in the pond, they found him the next day. He did not make it.

My husband died in a car wreck and he did not make it, and it was a one car wreck. He was 24 and a very good driver and God had different plans, it was his time, that the only way I can think of it. You may not know why things happen but later down the road, believe me you will always look back and keep try to figure them out. May God Bless all who are concerned.

concerned parent on January 8th, 2009 10:15 am I am glad that their injuries were not fatal. Also wondering why they were out at 9:00 on a school night. I feel that 16 year olds that JUST STARTED driving need more supervision. I think that that 16 is just too young for teenagers to start driving by themselves. They are not ready for such a responsibility. >>>> QUESTION ABOUT THIS

MY QUESTION TO THIS CONCERN PARENT DID YOU NOT DRIVE AT 16??????? I BET YOU DID .. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO FEEL WHEN YOU TURN 75 OR 80 AND THESE KIDS COME BACK ON YOU AND SAY THAT YOU NEED TO STOP DRIVING ????????BECAUSE YOU ARE TO OLD WHO KNOWS YOU COULD BE THIS OLD NOW NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY 16 YR OLDS DRIVE ALONE… MY 16 YR OLD DROVE ALONE YES I WORRIED AND STILL WORRIE I HAVE A 19, 27, 32 AND STILL WORRIE ITS NOT ABOUT THE AGE THIS COULD OF HAPPEN TO YOU HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!!!!!!

  8. Julie on January 9th, 2009 10:02 pm

Concerned Parent, Maybe you should change your name to meddling parent. My momma always told me if you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything at all. I guess your momma didn’t teach you that. I bet you regret opening your mouth. You really should apologize to these girls.

  9. Yvonne Aden on January 9th, 2009 8:19 pm

I wanted to let everyone know that Tori and Tiffie are my grandchildren and Blaze is my niece. I thank God and erveryone that had a hand in the accident. Tori is a safe driver she carries her Aunt that is 65 to the Doctor in Gulf Breeze, Pensacola, and Pace when she can. How many 16 years old would take there time to care for there Aunt. Not Many. Melissa, Tony, Marty and Greg are great parents. So for the concern parent I want to say I hope you have enough trust in your children that these parents do and there grandparents who love them very much.

BLAZE– GIRL TO SEE YOU LAYING THERE LIKE THAT MADE ME FEEL SOO BAD WHEN ALICIA SAID EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON SHE IS DEFF. RIGHT I JUST WISH WE KNEW WHAT IT WAS . I CAME TO VISIT YOU BUT UNFORTUNATELY YOU HAD JUST FALLEN ASLEEP AND I DIDNT WANT TO BOTHER YOU .. SO I JUST DROPPED OFF THE CARD THAT EVERYONE SIGNED FOR YOU AND LEFT HOPEFULLY I WILL BE ABLE TO COME AND SEE YOU AGAIN THIS WEEKEND AND YOU WILL BE AWAKE!!! LOL ANYWAYS I LOVE YOU BUNCHES AND HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER

TORI– DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT IT IS ALL YOUR FAULT FORGET EVERYTHING THAT “CONCERNED PARENT” HAD TO SAY BECAUSE WHOEVER THAT IS IT IS DEFF. NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS WHAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING AND IT IS NOT HIS OR HER JOB TO CRITICISE ANY PARENT BECAUSE THEY DID NOTHING WRONG. I COULD UNDERSTAND HER POINT IF MAYBE YOU GUYS DIDNT JUST COME FROM CHURCH BUT YOU WERE AT A PLACE THAT IS GOOD FOR YOU GUYS TO BE AT SO WHO CARE WHAT HE/SHE HASTO SAY . IM JUST GLAD YOU GUYS ARE OKAY

TIFFANY– WOW !! YOU ARE DEFF. PROUD OF THAT BATTLE SCAR LOL
I FOUND IT PRETTY NAUSIATING:D LOL J.K BUT I LOVE YOU AND I HOPES YOU FEEL BETTER ASAP!!

    “CONCERNED PARENT”
JUST TO LET YOU IN ON A LITTLE SOMETHING .. YOU HAVE NO REASON TO BE CONCERNED BECAUSE ALL YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IS CRITICISE AND PUT PEOPLE DOWN DONT YOU KNOW THAT THE GIRLS AND THEIR PARENTS ARE GOING THROUGH ENOUGH RIGHT NOW THEY DONT NEED SOME CRITISIM FROM SOMEBODY THAT CANT EVEN LEAVE THEIR REAL NAME BECAUSE THEY ARE TO ASHAMED OF WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY .. SO WHY DONT YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUISNESS AND REALIZE WHAT HAPPENS HAPPENS GOD DOES EVER THING FOR A REASON THEY WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT DAY OR NIGHT .. YOU SHOULD ONLY HAVE CONCERNS FOR WHETHER THEY ARE OKAY OR NOT THATS ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS

    EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON

  14. bobby. on January 9th, 2009 2:18 pm

I agree with Mrs. Cyndi. Now is not a time for critism!!! We should all be thankful that they are ok and on their way to recovery. God wouldn’t have done this without a reason. I’m so happy that yall are getting better and putting God first still in everything you do! I’ll be continuing with my prayers.

    love you.

  17. Just So You Know on January 9th, 2009 9:55 am

    Concerned Parent-
In Florida, teenagers are required to drive for a year under the supervision of a parent using their learner’s permit. That means she didn’t “just start” driving. Accidents can happen even when we have many, many years of driving experience.

  18. Melissa (Tori & Tiffany's mother on January 9th, 2009 9:41 am

Well the first thing I say is thanks to William for such a great website. I check Northescambia.com first thing every morning, I just never thought I would be reading about this!! My thanks go out to all of the paramedics, volunteers, and Mr. and Mrs. Williams that helped all of our girls.

Thanks for all of the calls and visits and all of the wonderful comments that ya’ll have wrote. This is everyone’s worst nightmare, I just am glad that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. These girls have been very brave and they are headed for a good recovery. Raising teenagers is a FULL TIME JOB!!!

Tori got to go home yesterday and she had a pretty good blow to her head. Tiffany got moved from ICU yesterday to a regular room. She still has the chest tube, but the drainage is slowly decreasing. Hopefully we will get to go home in a couple of days. I spent time with Marty and Blaize last night and she was in good spirits. They are hoping to get her up today and maybe to a regular room!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR CARING AND PRAYING FOR OUR GIRLS. WE COULD NEVER HAVE MADE IT WITHOUT YA’LL AND MOST IMPORTANTLY GOD!!!!

  19. Mr. Alan on January 9th, 2009 9:39 am

Blaze – I am so releaved that you are going to be okay. I know you have injuries that will have to heal, but God saved you from much worse and can certainly heal your wounds. I don’t really know the Chavers girls, but I thank God that they will be okay as well.

Blaze…you always make me smile with your laugh and awesome personality. We miss you at church and hope to see you back soon. In the mean time, you listen to the doctors and we will pray for a full recovery!

    God bless,
    Mr. Alan

  20. Cyndi Marlow on January 9th, 2009 9:24 am

    Tori, Tiffany, and Blaze,
I am so glad that you will all be okay. I will be praying for your complete recovery. You and your families have so much to be thankful for. God has a plan for your lives and He definitely had His hand on you!

I know that sometimes we have those certain people who say things that are insensitive and hurtful at times like this. They feel it is their duty to criticize when they have no idea what you’ve been through. You just have to overlook them! They should realize that this is not the time for criticism. I’m sure all of us who have ever experienced any type of accident would go back and do things differently if we could. The thing is… we can’t go back.

    I hope you’re better soon.
    Love ya!
    Cyndi

    To Concerned Parent
I would like to know how many teenagers you have raised? Were they perfect? Did they ever have an accident? Did you yourself ever make a mistake as a parent. I know I have .Every parents set of rules are different and those decisions should not be judged by anyone. Every loving parent knows their own child and realizes what responsibilities these kids can handle.
Wake up people our teenagers of today are already starving , for places to go and ways to socialize with their peers. If you keep them from church, just because its a school night what kind of message is that. Instead of criticizing the decision of these girls and their parents, which are good girls and parents by the way. I challenge you to come together with these parents and other really concerned parents to give your community and personal support and prayers to these girls and their families and help find a way to bring these kids and other parents together in a fun, safe and stable environment for the parent and the child. I am sure that more than a few parents would love to see a plan to help keep parents informed of whats going on in their child’s social life and help make a plan of action that can bring our young people together not only for church on Wed. and Sunday but all during the rest of their week. These girls were blessed and need only the most positive attitudes and support and prayers from Everyone in their community.

  24. Phil. 4:13 on January 8th, 2009 11:43 pm

we are so glad the girls are all ok, or will be ok. this could have been so much worse, (praise god it was not). This community could not bare the tragic loss of any more young people!! I think the community should comend the man from the farm house where the accident happened. He and his wife were really the first people on the scene and he was the one that got the girls out, execpt blaze (he waited with her until EMS arrived) I understand his wife called EMS while he was helping them. it is citizens like that man that make a community home. home is where people look out for one another and help out when needed. thank you mr citizen for helping these girls. Girls, get well soon and we love you.

  25. KVG on January 8th, 2009 10:22 pm

    Concerned Parent,
You must not be a parent at all… Or maybe you don’t know anyone who has ever been in a vehicle accident… I’m not sure what you were thinking when you left your comment… Would it have been better for you if the accident would have been at a different time??? Tori, Tiff, and Blaze, I love all of you and I am just glad that you are all doing okay. Greenland Rd. definately needs a few signs. That curve will catch you off guard in broad daylight. Girls, don’t pay any attention to the “Concerned Parent’s” comments. They apparently don’t know you nor your parents. Tori, you don’t have to defend yourself to anyone. All of us who know you, know that you did the best that you could do. And yes, “Concerned Parent”, the girls parents are very strict and would never allow them to be careless nor would they allow them to be joy riding on a dirt road on a school night. I AM a parent of 3 children under the age of 10 and I would trust Tori to drive my children anywhere. I really hope that you think about your comments… Better yet, imagine your children being in an accident and people posting a comment like yours in reference to YOU…. Get a grip and be thankful that Tori, Tiff, and Blaze are alive.

I think the comment I allowed to post below about taking driver’s ed again was meant as a fun sarcastic comment between friends.

But let’s stay away from comments that attack the girls. Let’s be more concerned as a community about how they are doing.

Get well and other other friendly comments are more than welcome.

Don’t Tell Me That I Need To Go Take Drivers Ed Again. You Were Not In My Shoes & You Don’t Even Know Anything That Happened Last Night. There Was No Sign On That Road Indicating That There Was A Curve Coming Up. I Tried The Best That I Could, & There Was Simply Nothing Else That I Could Do. & Instead Of Criticizing Everything, Everyone Should Just Be Thankful That This Was Not Life Threatening & That Everyone Will Get Better. & If You Have So Much To Say About The Wreck, Then Get Brave And Leave Your Name.
    Thanks!

Tori,You go girl! Glad you are home, I know your little puppy is glad to see you. Just know that your car can be replaced but you can’t and I think you girls did a valor job handling this accident. You showed great maturety and this comes from your parents teaching and showing you the way. The comments from ” Concerned Parent” are very shallow and you are very big even to offer a explanation. I doubt this comment comes from a “parent” or anyone who even drives. So, Sweet Girl don’t pay any attention to such remarks. We know you have great parents and you are great girls. We Love You!

  37. Froggy on January 8th, 2009 7:54 pm

Well for the concerned parent, Just a thought, I have had five children and they all drove at 16, they were very responsible and they checked in. Just because they are 16 does not mean they can’t drive at dark and come from church. But children remember when you are on dirt roads, they will throw you around and into the inbankment. I know because it happened to me and I was 28 at the time.
Just be more caution, and think of everythink that can happen and work on it not happening. Slow down, please children and 45 is to fast on the dirt road. Some time things happen, just to help you young ones out. You will understand it later and think about the blessings that you can get and God Bless all of ya. Thank God you all will be ok.

We Were Coming Home From CHURCH Last Night, & I Was Taking Blaze Home. There Was Nothing That We Were Doing, That We Shouldn’t Have Been Doing. & My Parents Have GREAT Supervision Over Me & Always Know Where I Am No Matter What You Think. & Just Because I Just Turned Sixteen & Started Driving Doesn’t Mean That I’m Not Responsible Enough To Do What I’m Suposed To. I Had My Seatbelt On & I Was Only Driving 45. BUT, All Three Of Us Are Very Blessed & Very Thankful To Be Alive. God Was Definitely Looking Out For All Three Of Us Last Night & He Had His Hand Over Us. We’re All Doing Better, & We’re Going To Make A Great Recovery. They are very lucky and fortunate not to be hurt badly. God was with the girls and will continue to be with them. He will get them through this no matter what. But I agree; all kids need to buckle-up and be safe whenever or whereever they’re goin.

We love you girls and your in our prayers.

We just went to see Tori (Tiffany & Blaze are still in intensive care). Tori looks good and should be going home later today.

Tiffany is having the tube removed from her lung that was collapsed. The nurses are going to get her up and walk her a little. She may go home as early as tomorrow but more likely on Saturday.

Blaze is schedule to have a halo put on her head today for her fractured neck. She will have to wear the halo for three months. She also has a broken pelvis.
It is not clear yet as to when she will be released.

Tori & Tiffany were wearing their seat belts……thus less injuries. Blaze did not have her seat belt on and was more severely injured. PLEASE…..Please all you kids out there, it’s so important to wear your seat belts, even if you’re driving a short distance! These girls were very blessed not to have been killed. Whether you are riding in your own vehicle or someone elses……….BUCKLE-UP!!!

I am glad that their injuries were not fatal. Also wondering why they were out at 9:00 on a school night. I feel that 16 year olds that JUST STARTED driving need more supervision. I think that that 16 is just too young for teenagers to start driving by themselves. They are not ready for such a responsibility.

Talked with Mrs. Chavers early this morning. Tori is in a regular room and doing okay. Tiffany & Blaze are both in Pediatric Intensive Care, but no life threatening injuries. They will all be fine. Their guardian angels were with them!! Our family’s thoughts go out to Tori, Tiffany, Blaze and their families!

glag to see everyone is ok.

i grew up not very far from there and that lil dirt road claimed a few vehicles from people i knew. a few county signs designating a curve here or there would make a big difference to a new 16yr old driver and possibly prevented this wreck.
